Parent news during district closure

L.D. Bell and Trinity High School Graduation Announcement

HEB ISD is partnering with Texas Motor Speedway and fellow north Texas school districts to host in-person graduation ceremonies on our originally scheduled date, May 31, 2020, providing families with a venue that offers ample space to ensure all health precautions are met during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It has always been our desire to have an in-person graduation to honor our students. This venue will allow us to provide a safe option, celebrate the Class of 2020 in a memorable way, and keep our original in-person graduation date.

Graduation times for high schools are as follows:

L. D. Bell High School: Sunday, May 31at 10:00 a.m.

Trinity High School: Sunday, May 31 at 6:00 p.m.

Texas Motor Speedway has the capability to allow families to attend commencement ceremonies without leaving their vehicles. Graduates will receive their diplomas on “Victory Lane” in a “hands-free” style to respect the social distancing guidelines outlined by Tarrant and Denton County Health Services. Students will also have the opportunity to have their photo taken professionally in their cap and gown just before crossing the stage.

Graduates, wearing academic regalia in addition to masks, will walk across a staging area to receive their diploma. Masks will be distributed to graduates upon arrival.

Texas Motor Speedway will project the ceremony on “Big Hoss,” a 12-story, 218-foot-wide video board, to ensure that every graduate is seen by those in attendance, both in-person and virtually. Texas Motor Speedway's graduation plan allows one ticket for a student vehicle and one ticket for a family vehicle. Graduating students and their families will receive additional logistical information about the ceremonies, such as arrival times and parking, directly from their campus leaders in the days ahead.

Family members who are in high-risk categories for contracting COVID-19, or who are currently quarantined, are asked to remain at home and watch via Livestream or listen on the designated radio station. Students will receive further information from their school administrators.

Texas Motor Speedway, 3545 Lone Star Circle, is a NASCAR speedway located in the northernmost portion of the city of Fort Worth, but is located in Denton County.

Update posted on May 8 at 3pm: We are working with Texas Motor Speedway as they finalize their processes, and we will communicate more information with our senior families soon. We can share this preliminary TMS guidance about allowed vehicles: Vehicle height is limited to 8ft 6in. No RVs, no limousines, no party buses, and no charter buses will be allowed. Standard passenger vehicles are allowed, such as cars, minivans, SUVs, pick-up trucks.
