CAFE Updates
December 2018
Academics
The students have started their first book club in 5th grade. Each time the students meet in their book clubs, they need to have: at least 8 think marks, a thick question, and a write long complete (WL is due 2 days after meeting). The students have 3 more meetings in their book clubs. Please check in with your child to see how their work is coming along. We will continue to work on our deeper level thinking skills through our book clubs: inferring, connecting, synthesizing, predicting, analyzing, and critiquing while we read our book club and "just right" books.
Writer's Workshop
We have started our personal narrative unit. Students will work on developing narratives with fully developed characters, setting and creating the heart of the story.
Math
Our Volume unit is off to a great start. Don't forget to ask your child how their math goals are coming and check out their PLP for unit 2.
Science
Students are in a matter and chemistry unit where they are trying to figure out Mystery powders and mixtures.
Extras
The 5th grade winter concert will be held in the CPAC on Tuesday, December 18th at 6:30. That same day, in the afternoon, we will be going to the CPAC to practice for the big show!
Auctions
Thanks to all that sent in goodies for our last auction. Please feel free to send any gently used toys, games, books, etc. for our next auction!
Kapco Kids to Kids Toy Drive
Kids 2 Kids is a program that helps parents who cannot afford toys for their kids during the holidays. The toy drive will be from December 3rd - December 14th. During that time you can bring in UNWRAPPED new gifts for kids. The grade level that brings in the most will get a treat!
Holiday Party
Our class will be having a holiday party on Friday Dec. 21st from 3:00-3:30. If you would like to donate something for our party, please sign up here.
