Next Friday 28th October is Athletics Day at Villa Maria College. Parents and Caregivers are more than welcome to come down and see the students in action across the day. Once again the the Junior Students will be joining us after lunch where we will be finishing the day with our Waka Races which are always fun!

A reminder that school is closed on Monday 24th October to observe Labour Day.

From all the Staff at St Patrick's we hope you all have a lovely and relaxing long weekend. If you are travelling stay safe on the roads.

Athletics Day

On Friday 28th October we have Athletics Day at Villa Maria College.

We do require parent helpers for the day to assist with the rotation of field events for Year 4 - 8 students. You do not require any athletics experience as there will be a teacher organising each event. We require helpers to assist with measuring or raking the long jump pit or recording results.

If you are able to help on the day please complete the Google Form under Alerts on School App.

Thank you for your support.

Secondhand Uniform Sale

Grab a deal at our FINAL Secondhand Uniform Sale for the 2022 school year.

In 2022, our Secondhand Uniform Shop has generated over $1,400 from sales of donated uniform items. All the proceeds made have in turn been donated directly back to the School to benefit our children. The PFA would like to thank our school community for continuing to support this valuable service by both donating and purchasing items from us.

The secondhand uniform shop will be open on Friday 4th November from 8:30am – 9:00am ahead of Room 6’s assembly in the Senior Learning Studio. Pop in to pick up a great deal on good quality secondhand items.

We would also be grateful for any donations of winter uniform items that your child has now outgrown or no longer needs. Donated items can be dropped into Selena at the school office any time.

PFA Help Needed

After 3 years of dedicated service as our Treasurer Anita is stepping down from the role at our upcoming AGM. We are very keen to fill this role at the AGM so we can continue to operate smoothly and focus on continuing to support the School and our school community.

We are keen to hear from any current member who may be interested in the role or who may know someone in our school community who would be a great fit that we could get in touch with.

St Patrick’s School Ambassador Programme News

The St Patrick’s School Ambassador Programme seeks to develop the leadership qualities of; Support, Inspiration, Honesty, Commitment, Passion, Reflection, Creativity, and Problem-Solving.

The Ambassador Programme provides a Student Council Framework over a two-year period which offers students opportunities to take responsibility and to work collaboratively with the whole School Community for the benefit of the School and its students. Students are encouraged, affirmed, given responsibility, and provided with opportunities to experience success in a managed environment.

Each year our Year 7 and 8 students apply for seven ambassador roles that they would like to lead throughout the year.

  • Know, Show, Pray
  • Leadership Outside the Classroom
  • Sport and Recreation
  • Tech and Me
  • Culture Across School
  • Paddy's Green Team
  • Arts In Action

Throughout the year this involves the students also completing a St Patrick’s School Ambassador Journal, participating in a range of Outdoor Activities, taking part in Community Service Work as well as taking up a Passion Project for the year.

These are then measured to see if they have achieved the recognition of Participation, Merit, or Excellence based on their overall attitude and participation across the three components as well as the effort they have put into their journal entries throughout the year.

Eco-Action Nursery Trust Celebration

On Thursday 20th October, two of our Year 8 students, Caitlin Petersen and Ryan Attwood, represented the School at a celebration held for all the schools involved in growing native plants and trees for the Eco-Action Nursery Trust.

At the celebration, Ryan and Caitlin accepted a certificate on behalf of our Year 7 and 8's, who have managed the programme at school this year. They also received an Eco-Action leader vest and a badge.

The Trust grows native plants and trees suitable for native bird food and habitat within the Christchurch Red Zone. They cultivate the plants from the Travis Wetland in satellite nurseries managed by schools and community groups. Throughout the year they run planting days and mulching within the Christchurch Red Zone. In time, it is planned that the plants will grow to form a corridor for native birds to return to the city centre.

Well done to all our Year 7 and 8's for their efforts this year. We look forward to next year encouraging more St Patrick’s families to get involved in the planting days held by the Trust.

Huxster Mountain Bike Racing

Yesterday all our Year 7 and 8 Students as well as a small group of Year 5 and 6 students headed out to McLeans Island to take part in the Huxster Mountain Bike Race which doubled as another Outdoor Activity for the St Patrick’s School Ambassador Programme.

The Huxster began back in 2004 with the first-ever Canterbury School MTB Champs at Kennedy’s Bush. In recent years the event has been held out at McLeans Island. We had about 50 students enter this year's event and we know they will be excited to return again in 2023.

Thank you to all the amazing parents who gave up their time to come help and support on the day. These days simply can't happen without your support. A big thank you also to Mr Beaton for once again finding another challenging Outdoor Activity for our Ambassador Programme.
