Each video features expert advice from Dr. Doreen Marshall, AFSP’s Vice President of Mission Engagement, and Dr. Wenimo Okoya from The Jed Foundation, sharing practical tips on supporting a friend who may be struggling with their mental health. Click HERE to watch each video. | Centers for Disease Control and Prevention In May 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health-related emergency department (ED) visits for suspected suicide attempts increased among adolescents aged 12–17 years, especially girls. For example, during February 21–March 20, 2021, suspected suicide attempt ED visits were 50.6% higher among girls aged 12–17 years than during the same period in 2019; for boys aged 12–17 years, suspected suicide attempt ED visits increased 3.7%.
