SOUTH SCHOOL

November 5, 2023

South Families:

We started off the week with lots of Halloween fun at South School and enjoyed our kindergarten costume parade.

As a reminder, we do not have school tomorrow due to Parent-Teacher Conferences. If you have not signed up for a conference, please reach out to your teacher. The book fair will be open in the library for the entire day tomorrow as well. We thank our teachers for all the work they have done to prepare for your time together on Monday.

Warmly,

Brenda Lee & Olivia Goodrich

VETERAN'S DAY

To honor veterans on Veterans Day, we would like to create a Wall of Honor. If you know any veterans, still living or no longer with us, your family is invited to make a star in honor of this hero. We will proudly display these stars right outside our main office. As we appreciate the service of anyone currently in the military, stars for the Wall of Honor are also appropriate for current military personnel.

On your star, please include the person’s name, the branch of the military, and the child’s relationship to this person. You may also include any awards this person may have received. Please return it to school by Thursday, November 9th.

SOUTH SCHOOL GEAR

LAST CHANCE! SOUTH SPIRIT WEAR available to order - stay warm and comfy with hoodies, pajamas pants, vests and more. Limited supplies and the store closes on Friday, November 10th. They will come in before the winter holidays!

COATS FOR KIDS

South's Community Service is proud to participate in the Coats for Kids campaign. For almost 30 years, Anton’s Cleaners collects, cleans and distributes approximately 50,000 coats for children and adults. The goal of the program is to ensure that no person goes without a coat during the winter season.

Please consider any gently worn jacket that is too small or no longer worn. The drop off bin for South is located in front vestibule. Once collected and cleaned, coats are distributed free of charge through the Coats for Kids Distribution Partners network made up of local nonprofits, schools and social service agencies in New England.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE CLINIC:

The State of Massachusetts and the Andover Public Schools require all students in 3rd grade to have a current physical on file. If you have not yet submitted a physical to the clinic, please send in a physical that has been completed on/after April 1, 2023.

You may send the physical in with your child, fax it to 978-247-9891 or scan it to the email listed below. If your child is due for a physical later this school year, please let me know.

If you have any questions, please call me at 978-247-9802.

Thank you,

Christina Lemonias, RN

HALLOWEEN FUN AT SOUTH

Big picture

Show Announcement – Save the Date

South Cooperative Theater is excited to announce that our spring musical will be Charlotte’s Web. This exciting musical version of Charlotte's Web brings a new dimension to E.B. White's beloved classic book. With music and lyrics by Charles Strouse (Annie, 'Bye, 'Bye Birdie) and book by Joseph Robinette (national award-winning children's playwright) we know our cast and audiences will love this production. This musical features all of the story’s unforgettable animals including Charlotte the spider, Wilbur the pig and Templeton the rat along with their human companions the Arable and Zuckerman families.

Auditions for interested students in grade 3-4-5 will be held after Thanksgiving break – more details to follow.

There will be three performances of Charlotte’s Web – March 8, 9, and 10. Performances will be held at West Middle School auditorium. We look forward to seeing you there!
