A Thank You Note from Helping Hands of Chatham
On behalf of Joann Carroll, founder of Helping Hands of Chatham and myself, and the many families in Chatham still struggling with food insecurity in the wake of the pandemic, THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for your most generous donation. Joann and I were thrilled to learn that a portion of the funds collected for this year's LAF Read-a-thon would benefit Helping Hands of Chatham. My 4th grader Maddie came home one day and shared the good news! In discussing the amount at home, I wondered with Maddie if the donation would be something like 10% of the funds raised. Joann thought perhaps it might amount to somewhere around $500. Those amounts alone, and the idea that Lafayette students were using their competitive spirit and reading superpowers to benefit members of their own community and school system was wonderful to begin with. When Joann and I arrived to receive the check this week and saw the amount written on the big check we were moved to tears! I was overcome in fact and almost started to cry thinking of what that amount of money meant! It was a true gift at a crucial time. Just when we thought our efforts might be coming to an end due to a lack of funds, the LAF community has catapulted our ability to continue to purchase Shop Rite gift cards for SDOC families and to make an impactful difference in the lives of members of our own community. I am so very proud to be part of a community like Chatham and specifially to have children in and having come through a school like LAF that has fostered such a giving spirit.
With much appreciation,
Helping Hands of Chatham
