We miss being with our Phoenix Family! We will get through this and be together in August 2020!
Parents and Students,
I have been sitting at my desk in my "home office" for several minutes not knowing how to start this edition of the Phoenix News. I am disappointed, as I'm sure most of you are, that we will not finish the school year in person. In case you missed the news; Texas Governor Greg Abbott amended his Executive Order calling for all schools to remain closed in the state of Texas through the end of the school year. This means GCISD facilities will be closed and all events/activities canceled through the end of May; online learning and meal service will continue. Of course, some express other emotions. My 9 year old grandson, was thrilled! I have a new appreciation for his teachers, as I struggled to work with him on a 3rd grade essay on whether water bottles are good or bad, and I'm an English teacher. This is such a surreal experience for sure! Whether you are disappointed or thrilled, I am positive we will all be back together in August! I for one, can't wait!
What does all this mean for the Phoenix Family? Students should be working to finish their TCC courses online! Remember, the last day to drop is this Thursday. Please read more information in Mr. Cavanagh's article below. We will finish our Collegiate Academy high school courses for the year online on May 22, 2020. The 4th nine weeks is a Pass/Fail grade that will be entered into the gradebook as either a 100 or a 69. If you have struggled in the fall, working hard in your high school courses, could redeem your grade for the year. If the fall semester grade for example in ELA 1 is a 60 and you earn an 80 for the spring semester, you earn ELA 1 credit for the year. This is an opportunity for students to make a fresh start in August! Every day of the school week, Mr. White sends you a link to all of your high school work or check out the link here in the Phoenix News! Let's do it!
The good news is most of our CA students are checking in and completing work weekly. A HUGE shout out to our juniors for 100% engagement. You guys are rockin' it!
What does this mean for the Class of 2020? We have already rescheduled graduation for June 22 at the Grapevine Convention Center. Also, we have a date scheduled for July 15 at the Grapevine Convention Center (just in case we need it) and we will keep rescheduling if needed! We will hold a Collegiate Academy Class of 2020 Graduation, as soon as we are allowed to convene in large groups. We have prom/awards night scheduled for June 25 at the Colleyville Center! As soon as I have more detailed information, I will be sending a Senior Newsletter! We will be celebrating our Seniors virtually during the month of May! This class has accomplished so much and we want to give them as much applause as possible!
Over the next five weeks we are going to use the Phoenix News to share what we are all doing as we learn together, separately! In this newsletter you will see glimpses of teacher home offices and beginning this week we are sharing Phoenix Talent. Check out the article below that gives information on how to join the fun. Here are this week's students sharing their talent! Enjoy!

And finally, below my article are some empty CA hallway pictures that I snapped last week. The building is doing fine and ready and waiting for our return! Take this time to keep loving on your family and remembering relationships are more important than anything else. My word for this year is Love. As you spend time at home these words might help you to love your family members. These words hang over my home office desk!
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
Just think what the world would be like if we ALL loved like that...
