Principals' Post
Spring is finally here! While some days have treated us to warmth and sunshine, others have still been rainy and chilly. In the past week, we have experienced a drastic increase of students with illnesses and would like to remind you of the following procedures.
When and how long do I keep my child home from school?
- Any time your child has a fever of 99.5 degrees or higher, they should stay home until they have been fever free (WITHOUT any fever reducing medication) for 24 hours.
- Any time your child has vomiting or diarrhea, they should stay home until they have not had an episode for 24 hours.
- Any time your child has an unexplained rash, they should be kept home until they have seen a doctor to determine if the rash is contagious.
- If your child has pink eye diagnosed by a physician, they should stay home until they have seen a doctor and taken eye drops for 24 hours. A doctor's note should accompany your child back to school.
- Any time your child has strep throat that has been diagnosed by a physician, they must stay home until they are on antibiotics for 24 hours. A doctor's note should accompany your child back to school.
Outside of the aforementioned symptoms, we do ask that you send your child to school. Additionally, if you child is absent two or more days in succession, a physician’s note is required. Keeping children home and following these guidelines help prevent the spread of illnesses. The guidelines are recommendations from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
As this school year progresses, we will continue to monitor our school attendance. All research indicates that a student’s academic achievement is directly related to the amount of time spent in school. We are committed to making every child’s school experience a successful one and are here to assist you should you need additional advice or support. To that end, please do not hesitate to contact us at (708) 233 - 6800 if you have additional questions, concerns, or suggestions for improving your child’s experience here at school.

Mrs. Kristin Reingruber, Principal
Dr. Carla Braun, Assistant Principal
Reminders from the Glen Oaks Office
Our school day starts promptly at 8:30 a.m. Students need to be in class and ready to learn by this time. Students are considered tardy at 8:30 a.m. and must be signed in by parent in the front office.
We have a 24 hour attendance line available for your convenience at 708-598-5711. Please remember to call your child in before 8:30 a.m.
We know that you have appointments that need to be scheduled - please try your best to schedule appointments OUTSIDE the school day. Additionally, we ask that you please do not pick your child up from school until 2:45 p.m.
If you do plan to pick your child up early, please send your child with a note so the teacher is aware and we can have them ready for you when you arrive.
