2018-2019 School Year: Volume 32: Week of April 29, 2019
Be the Best YOU at Grandview!!!
Spring has Sprung!!
Spring has arrived, but someone forgot to tell the weatherman! 60 degrees one day and snow the next.
We see some definite changes in our students during this time of year. While teachers are trying to capture the last stretch of instructional time, our students want more than anything to be outside and having fun. Please encourage your child to continue to work to his/her fullest potential, even when he/she feels frustrated with the challenges of learning. The greatest amount of growth usually takes place when students have to work the hardest at something, and that is such an important part of learning!
With that being said, make sure your children are on-time each day and are coming to school as often as possible. There are a lot of essential concepts and content being taught that we cannot have your children miss out on this. Speaking of assessments, 5th grade is finished with M-STEP. 4th grade starts next week. Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) is starting to be administered to all students K-5 and Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) is also beginning K-5. It is great to see how much growth is happening with our Grandview students!
Let's make it another great week at Grandview!!!

Safety First
- During the school day, no one can enter the building through any door, but the front door.
- Everyone needs to sign in and get a sticker if you wish to walk towards the classrooms during the school day. Staff indicated that they are unsure if the adults in the building have signed in and look to see the visitor stickers. I know that we are familiar faces to the office, but not all of the staff knows all of the faces, so please take the extra steps to sign-in.
- If you have a GSRP or Pre-school student, after dropping your little one off, please do not walk through the hallways. If you wish to get your other child to class, please walk around to the front and sign in. It seems like a silly extra step, but arrival and dismissal is very hectic and all adults should be identified.

Pink Out Store
Team Gibson/Terpack still have the Pink Out Store opened. Suckers and other items will be sold to raise money for Karmanos Cancer Center. The store will be set up in the main hallway by the office and will be student run.
Tardy
We have had a lot of students arriving late. Tardies start at 8:40 and will be tracked. If your child comes in after the class did the lunch count, then they will automatically get PB&J as their lunch choice. Lunch counts will not be finalized until after 8:40. If you know your child is going to be late, then please call in the tardy and select your child's lunch choice to ensure that they can get another choice. Our lunch counts are becoming very lopsided and we need to ensure that the children are getting the choice that they signed up for. Also we need our students on time for school!!
Kroger and Grandview
We received over $100 from Kroger from our last reporting. Thank you to all of you who have added Grandview to your account. Though know that it is never too late to sign-up and join!!! So shop away, Grandview is benefitting from your grocery shopping!

*If a member does not yet have a Kroger rewards card, please let them know they are available at the customer service desk at any Kroger

Participants must swipe their registered Kroger rewards card or use the phone number that is related to their registered Kroger rewards card when shopping for each purchase to count.
Bookflix for Grandview Families
The Michigan eLibrary did not renew their subscription to Bookflix. We found great value in this site for our children. Therefore, Grandview purchased a school subscription that allows teachers and students to use the following username and password to access Bookflix at home and at school. Please feel free to use this at home. The link is as follows.....
https://digital.scholastic.com/site/launch/bkflix?ucn=600063987
There is a link on the Library symbaloo and will be putting a link under the student links on the Clarenceville website.
Username: grandvw
Password: flix
If you click on the apple and book in the top right corner, it takes you to a Resources and Tools page where you can search for books, search by themes, running times and grade levels.
This is another way to engage your students with their learning at home.
Enjoy!!!
Transportation Changes
Do not rely on just the office for transportation changes. It is important that you also put it in writing in an email to the teacher. If you alert the teacher and the office, chances are better that the message is delivered accurately. We have so many transportation changes at the end of the day that makes us uneasy that a mistake could occur. Please do not make a change after 3:00!!
