The Pizitz Post
For Students, Parents & Families - February 7, 2022
R-E-S-P-E-C-T...
We are grateful that character (our hands & habits), excellence (our minds), and family (our hearts) have been core values representing Pizitz for many years. We wanted to spend time unpacking each of these core values this year, and thinking about how we might grow in our character over time. Over the next twelve weeks, we will be highlighting these traits collectively. Each week in our communication, we will highlight a character trait, share with our students throughout the week, and look to highlight students who are exhibiting these traits in meaningful ways. Students have the opportunity to be nominated for character recognition when we see them model these traits.
Respect is letting someone know you see how valuable they really are. We believe that every person has value, and uniqueness is a gift. Respect can be shown through our actions and our words. We hope to see our Pirates respecting others through service and speech.
A Few Things to Note
- Now that our numbers for COVID have gone down, we will be back to regular capacity in our lunchroom. Students will have the opportunity to choose their own seats in the lunchroom.
- For planning purposes, we want to be sure you are aware of important dates for testing. The ACAP assessment will be administered the week of April 25-29. Please make every effort to have your child at school on those dates.
- In preparation for high school assessments, our 8th graders will be taking part in semester exams this spring. These exams will be held May 17-20.
- In the future, we will be letting you know the days we plan to have alternate schedules. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused previously. We also keep our school calendar up-to-date with our school-wide events.

Our School Counselors
As school counselors, these ladies provide support by teaching whole group guidance lessons, partnering with teachers and parents regularly, and meeting with students individually. In addition, they provide a wealth of knowledge about social and emotional development and how to best serve our students.
We are so grateful for the kindness and compassion they display at our school! Thank you, counselors!! If you want to celebrate them with us, send them a note this week to show your appreciation.
Thank you for purchasing picnic tables for the courtyard! We have submitted our order, and hope to have picnic tables in both of our courtyards to use this spring!
A Shout-Out to Our Math Team!
Visiting Author
As part of Jordan Sonnenblick's visit, two students from each grade will be selected to have lunch with the author! Students, if you are interested in this opportunity, please come by the library to put your name in the drawing for this exciting event.
School-Wide Philanthropy
Our school-wide philanthropy this year is On River Time. Check out information about this organization here.
One of the ways we will be raising money for this worthy cause is through selling t-shirts. There are two styles (which you can see by visiting the link here) and the shirts will be sold for $20 each. Sizes for these shirts will be ADULT SIZES. Orders will be taken February 1 through February 15. The order form can be found on the Pizitz SGA website here. Payment, via CASH or CHECK (made out to PIZITZ with a phone number), must be made by the end of the day February 16, or your order will not be filled.
If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Button Smith (smithel@vestavia.k12.al.us). Thank you in advance for your support!
