DaVinci Reflection
Suggest grades 6-12
Big Idea
This strategy allows for students to creatively reflect on academic content. Much like DaVinci's infamous notebooks, students can use a combination of text and images to independently synthesize their thinking and learning. Research suggests learning is best retained through images and color, this is an excellent creative task to reinforce information.
Below is an image of pages from Davinci's notebooks, as well as examples of 7th grade students DaVinci pages - reflecting on their notes from Q1 after fall break before resuming the unit of study.
Directions
- Students work independently to review the table of contents from units of study
- Students independently write/draw to translate the table of contents into a reflective page
- Students can share their work with a partner or the whole class.
Strategy Variations
- Have teams construct one page together
- Do this as a hook for an upcoming unit to see what students already know, or want to know about the topic
