Jordan's Jots
Happy June, Luxford!
It is hard to believe we just completed the most memorable school year on recent record! I want to share my immense gratitude for entrusting us with your children. This year was a challenge with many obstacles, and our school has persevered.
Our students were resilient this year, and I am so proud of all of them. You hear a lot about "learning loss" in the news. The reality is that our students have made "learning leaps" this year. They have gained new skills as collaborators and communicators. They have demonstrated a growth mindset as problem solvers when faced with new challenges. They have shown empathy and kindness to each other and to themselves.
I am grateful for the support of our families and the grit and grace of our teachers. Together, we are an AMAZING team!
I hope you and your family enjoy a happy, healthy, and safe summer making memories. Our children are only little for such a short time and this year, we have all learned how precious that time with loved ones really is.
This summer, our school office will be open Mondays-Thursdays. I encourage you to also check out the VBSchools website for updates about the 2021-2022 school year. I will send out updates and emails this summer, as well! Please never hesitate to reach out to us at school if you have any questions!
Have a happy, restful, and wonderful summer!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jordan

Update to VBCPS Mask Policy
As you know, the Governor recently released updated guidance regarding face-coverings. In consultation with our health experts, the following policy adjustments are in effect in all schools and administrative buildings are below:
- All staff, students and visitors must wear a mask on school property with the following exceptions:
- Staff members who have been fully vaccinated (14 days from final dose) do not need to wear a face covering when outside on school property during the school day.
- When children are NOT present in the building any individual, staff or visitor, is not required to wear a mask in doors wif they are fully vaccinated. If not, vaccinated, CDC guidance states: Individuals who are not yet fully vaccinated should continue to mask and distance in order to protect themselves and the people around them.
- Students who are participating outdoors in PE or recess do not need to wear a face covering. No physical distancing is required in this setting.
- Students who are exercising in the gym do not need to wear a mask, provided they can maintain 6 feet of physical distance from others.
- Staff and students may continue to wear face-coverings in any setting if they so choose.
- Students may remove a mask while playing certain musical instruments (with 10-foot distancing) and when eating (with 6-foot distancing).
- Students or staff with documented medical exemptions may also remove their face-coverings indoors.
If you have any questions about these policies, please contact the school.
Thank you for your support of Virginia Beach City Public Schools.
VB Summer Learning Boost
The Department of Teaching and Learning, in partnership with division teachers and instructional technology specialists, will be offering an amazing summer learning opportunity to all pre-kindergarten through fifth grade students who were enrolled in Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) during the 2020-21 school year!
Each week in July, high-quality literacy and numeracy lessons aligned to key grade level concepts will be posted and available to currently enrolled VBCPS students. These optional lessons will review and reinforce previously taught material to give our students a great learning boost before they begin the 2021-22 school year. For example, a 2020-21 kindergartener should access the kindergarten lessons to review key skills and concepts from kindergarten. Students are also welcomed to try lessons from a “lower” or “higher” grade level if they would like additional review or to challenge themselves.
The lessons will be provided in video format so students are able to engage at times that fit their family schedule and will remain posted through August. Helpful parent videos will accompany lessons to provide parents an overview of each week’s learning and highlight other resources available to students.
Students who were enrolled in VBCPS pre-kindergarten through fifth grade during the 2020-21 school year will be able to access the learning experiences and other resources using their VBCPS student login credentials via ClassLink.

Summer Reading!
It’s summer! And that means it’s time to think about SUMMER READING!
