From the Principal's Desk: A Season to Reflect on Our Students' Progress
Syringa Middle School Community,
As we enter into this season of gratitude, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our families, students, and staff. Your involvement is crucial to our educational community, and it is with great pride that we reflect on the significant growth our students have made since the beginning of the year. Our school is a wonderful blend of unique talents, and it is the collective effort of our wonderful families and exceptional staff that allows each child to grow and learn. As your principal, I am continually inspired by the positive impact we are making together in the lives of our students & community.
Sincerely,
Heather Ehlschide
Principal

Verterans Day Assembly
On Monday, November 13th, during our Veterans Day Assembly, Syringa Middle School will be honoring those in our community who have served or are serving in the United States Military. The program will include music, a slide show, videos, and a special speaker. Close friends and family of our staff and students who live in the area and served in the military are invited to come and be recognized for their service. Our assembly will begin at 1:20 p.m. and will last 45 minutes to an hour. After the assembly, students will finish out the school day writing thank you notes that will be sent to Operation Gratitude https://www.operationgratitude.com/volunteer/anywhere/letters/
To all of our Syringa families whose loved ones have served or are serving in the military, we sincerely thank you for your service.

Become a Syringa Volunteer
We’re looking for volunteers to help pop popcorn for the Student Self-Manager Rewards program. Every three weeks, we come together to pop, and bag popcorn as a tasty token of achievement for our hardworking students.
Join our school community by exploring various volunteer opportunities. Your involvement strengthens our school and enriches our student's education.
PAWS is an amazing program that really benefits students. It provides time for students to receive small group tutoring (WIN), complete missing assignments (Make-Up), learn new skills and develop existing skills (Enrichment).
One of our school counselors, Mrs. Hardy-Gutshall, facilitates two enrichment sessions each week. The first is called “Hakuna Matata (aka Dealing with Crap)”. It is a psychoeducational class where students learn coping skills to deal with the difficult situations and strong emotions that adolescence entails. Some of the strategies we have learned so far this year include: Journaling, Growth Mindset, Nutrition, and Painting. Upcoming topics may include (based on student interest and need): Gratitude Journals, Zentangles, Assertiveness, and/or Solving Puzzles. I keep a website with information for students from each sessions: https://sites.google.com/caldwellschools.org/hakunamatata/home
The second enrichment session is Knitting. In this enrichment students progress through a series of loom knitting projects starting with a bracelet and ending with a hat. This activity helps students improve their concentration, learn patience, develops fine motor skills & hand-eye coordination and fosters creativity. It can also promote mindfulness by helping students be present in the moment. Furthermore, the repetitive nature of knitting can have a calming effect which reduces stress and anxiety. If you have looms or yarn that you no longer want we are always looking for donations.
