River Bend Middle
Preparing for 2022-2023 - Welcome to "The Bend"
Steps from Elementary to Middle School
#1 Between January 4 - February 23, students/parents will select one music class via StudentVUE/ParentVUE. Music options include:
#2 Students/parents need to attend one of the Rising 6th Grade Orientation & Instrument Test Drive Nights
- Tuesday, February 8 at 6:00 p.m.(designed for families from Countryside ES & Potowmack ES, but anyone may attend).
- Thursday, February 10 at 6:00 p.m. (designed for families from Algonkian ES, Horizon ES, & Sterling ES, but anyone may attend).
- Tuesday, February 15 at 6:00 p.m. (make-up date)
#3 During the Rising 6th Grade Orientation & Instrument Test Drive Night, students will complete the music survey. This is a critical step in verifying your music choice and selecting your instrument. Students will select their top three choices in order to balance out our band and orchestra.
#4 On February 25, parents will receive a Permission Click to verify the courses their child will take in 6th grade. Like many other middle schools, River Bend Middle School offers honors language arts, history, and science for all 6th grade students based on a personalized learning model. Starting in 7th grade, we begin to define academic and honors sections based on a variety of data points.
Between January 31 - February 23, 5th grade teachers will make a recommendation for either Math 6 or Foundations of Algebra. Math 6 is the next progression of math from Math 5. Some students may be eligible to accelerate and enroll in Foundations of Algebra, but only if the data supports skipping a year of math instruction.
***Please be aware that no schedule changes are made after April 1st due to staffing and scheduling at the secondary level.
#5 If your summer schedule is open, we strongly encourage rising 6th graders to attend RBM (River Bend Middle) 101. This is a 2-day early back camp on Monday, August 8 - Tuesday, August 9.
#6 Attend Back-to-School Night on August 24 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
