Student-Led Conferences Coming Soon
This year we have set aside September 28 for Student-Led Conferences. These will be held after school from 4:30 to about 6:30.
It may seem a bit early to have these conferences, but it will provide parents with an opportunity to see what their child has been doing thus far. You may want to prepare information for students to include in their portfolio regarding your goals as well.
During these conferences, the work will be done by the students. Teachers will be there should parents wish to speak with them, but the students will be leading the conversations with their parents. Students will need a portfolio (a simple manila file folder will be fine) of their work to share with parents, so you need to begin saving their work now. These portfolios will include work that the students choose but it will also include at least two assignments that you choose to include. Each core content teacher should have a folder or a manila envelop in which the students work is placed along with the assignments you want to include.
By dividing the students up in their teams, we can accommodate everyone pretty easily.
Core teachers, talk with each other and decide which students you will have in your room so that you can let them know, and decide how you want to coordinate the sharing of student portfolios/folders.
Go to the link below for additional information.
TTESS Goals due September 29th
Learning Rounds
At Wm. Adams Middle School, we are on a constant mission to determine where are kids are, what skills they have, and what skills they need. The same can be said for the administrators and the staff. In the past we have had many discussions about why our students are not performing at the expected level(s), and we have talked about "systemic" problems which are impacting student performance. One of the methods used in this District to assess these things is called Learning Rounds
So, if on September 20th you happen to look up and see a group of adults quietly enter your classroom, please carry on as if we weren't there. There will be central office people, and some of our own teachers. Be assured that no names are ever tied to results.
Department Meetings: Tuesdays and Thursdays
We understand that both grade levels will be meeting at the same time and this was a decision made to facilitate vertical planning discussions. On the occasions when you will not be having those conversations, there should be plenty of space for you to share the room.
If there are specific materials and resources that you need, please let us know. We will do our best to secure them for you.
Clubs
If you have a suggestion for a club, and/or would like to sponsor it or another, please let us know. The more we can keep kids involved, the better young people they will become. Thank your for your consideration of this request.
