What some volunteers say....

What a lovely lesson that was today - overwhelmed by the surprise at the end! Would like to say (re. your email) that it's an absolute joy to be a part of your project! So impressed by the students' effort and their general attitude to learning (and indeed life). They all seem really nice and I hope I'm being helpful to them! To your own credit, I hope you realise what a wonderful thing it is you do organising the course. Likewise all the teaching staff are brilliant and clearly have motivated the students. I can see only success for this!

We are EnglishWorks!
EnglishWorks focuses on the development and improvement of its students' ability to speak English. We use tourism related topics to practice conversation. To achieve this goal it is imperative that students have many opportunities to listen and speak English.
Listening and speaking opportunities are given to students throughout the class, using the digital tools available in the classroom and the support of teachers and volunteers who are in the classroom.
EnglishWorks classes are held in low income areas in Rio de Janeiro, where students rarely have the opportunity to interact with native and/or fluent speakers of English. We use Skype for one-to-one conversations between native/fluent speakers and the students. This gives students a chance to practice the vocabulary they learned in class and to go further in conversations if the student is ready for it.
The one-to-one conversations help students with the use of English, but also introduces them to people from different cultures.
