Go Fourth!
News & tidbits from 4th Grade at HRRS
October 22, 2015
Our week of ITBS testing has been going extremely well. We are winding down in the morning and will be back to our normal schedule and routine next week.
As a class, we are doing a review of some of our basic math concepts; multiplication & long division as well as brushing up on our math facts. This week and next, we will be focusing on our 2s & 3s times tables up to 12. Please practice (practice, practice!) them with your student: Out loud in the car, chanting them as you walk, quizzing with flash cards, on commercials with the TV muted during the Seahawks game, over and over.....you get the picture. Please keep going until your student can quickly answer any of the facts (without pausing to calculate or compute). We are also continuing to practice at school with time tests, games and flash cards. Knowing your math facts by heart is a huge boost as we move on in fourth grade math (and onward into future years). They are the foundation on which more complicated concepts will be built. Thanks for your help.
The field trip I hinted at a couple of weeks back fell through for the moment. I was planning for us to visit the Point Defiance Zoo on the free day in October. However, school groups aren't accommodated on that day so we will try again in the Spring. There is a volunteer opportunity where we can make seed sticks for the birds, and then enjoy the zoo ourselves. I do have another trip in mind for November, so stay tuned.
On Friday, Oct. 30th, we'll be having our first class party; from lunch until P.E. will be our time frame. I will be hanging a sign-up sheet outside the classroom for snacks to share.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Also, thank you to Monica Anaya (Chelsea's mom) for responding to my appeal for help as our Room Mom. She may contact you directly from time to time with volunteer opportunities or other needs for the classroom.
Happy Fall!
