KS Assessment Remote Testing

*Remote Only Juniors that have yet to take the KS Assessment Science test will test on May 11th at 8am in the Learning Commons.

*Remote Only Sophomores that have yet to take the KS Assessment ELA and Math tests will test on May 13th at 8am in the Learning Commons.

MacBook Collection

All MacBook’s and chargers for both In-Person and Remote learners, will be collected this year.

All Seniors, including Remote only students will turn in their MacBook’s on their last day of school which is May 19th. More details will be included in informational emails from Mr. Glaser in the coming weeks.

All In-Person 9th-11th graders will turn in their MacBook in the morning of May 27th.

All Remote 9th-11th graders will turn in their MacBook (and any other school items) through a drive through process on May 27th, from 2:00pm to 3:30pm.

Students enrolled in a SMSD summer school course can retain their MacBook until the summer school session is completed, but their enrollment must be confirmed by school personnel during MacBook collection in order to keep the device.

Student Parking

Students are allowed to park in the East or West parking lot in open spots. Students are NOT allowed at anytime to park in the front circle drive.

Purchase a Yearbook for 2020-21

Only 30 Yearbooks left for sale

Yearbooks will be distributed in June and there are only 30 books available on a first-come, first-served basis. To order yours, either take $65 in cash or check to the bookkeeper or pay online at www.yearbookforever.com .

The art department has big plans for the 21-22 school year! We’re looking at hosting a couple of big events (1 in the fall and 1 in the spring) that will help showcase the work of our amazing students and boost community involvement in our program! We are in search of some dedicated volunteers who can help us bring our plans to life! If you are looking for a satisfying and fulfilling volunteer opportunity please contact any of us. We would love the opportunity to tell you more about the special events we’re envisioning for 21-22.

SMN Athletics & Activities

Athletic Update

This is the final week of regular season. On Monday, May 17 we begin regional play for all spring sports.

If you don’t see an update for your student’s sport, please check twitter accounts for baseball (@sm_baseball), softball (@SMNorthSoftball), soccer (@smn_GirlsSoccer), and track and field (@SMNtrack).


The 69th Annual North Relays was a resounding success due to the effort of a collective group of the North Community. We are thankful for the efforts of our student volunteers who responsible for making our meet possible. The bulk of our student workers come from the track and field program and NJROTC. In addition, the Booster club, PTSA, office staff, teachers, coaches, Justin Stigge timing crew, Athletic Trainers especially Jon Vincent & Kevin Stalsberg, Tom Stephens, DRO’s, custodial staff especially Paul Staudinger, and specifically David Reichart and Jon Durham. If you have Spectrum Sports or NFHS network, you can watch some fantastic performances.


Summer Camp Registration Information – Summer Camps begin June 1st! Grades are determined by the 2021-2022 school year. Contact our coaches for (see registration form) directly for questions regarding sport specific camps.

Hall of Fame 2021

Two former Indians were inducted to the SM North Hall of Fame.


Storm Simons - Graduated in 2009, she participated in Track and Field as well as Basketball and Volleyball. She attended Central Missouri University where she continued her Track & Field Career. She graduated with a degree in Speech Language Pathology.


Mack Brown - Graduated in 2005, he participated in Football, Basketball and Baseball. He attended the University of Colorado on a Football scholarship before transferring to Baker University to finish out his college career. He is currently an offensive assistant coach for the New York Jets.

Return to Play Update

The district has made the decision to change the doctors allowed to release students from COVID Return to Play to only MD, PO and APRN; DC and PA-C will be removed, as they do not have the ability to perform cardiac assessments.

KSHSAA Guidelines Return to Play


SMSD partners with The Health Partnership, which is a medical practice with family physicians and pediatricians; they also have equipment to perform an EKG. The Health Partnership the only federally funded health clinic in Johnson County. They accept families with no insurance as well as families with health insurance coverage. They have offices on the Shawnee Mission Medical Center campus and in Olathe.


Face coverings for all attending and supporting interscholastic activities. The only exception is for those actively participating in competition.

2021 High School Graduation Ceremonies

Watch live on cable or online


The Shawnee Mission School District is pleased to provide a variety of options to watch the graduation ceremonies for SM North and Horizons.

Each ceremony will be filmed and available for viewing on our cable channels, YouTube, and as a digital download.


The district will also livestream all of the graduation events as they happen and later, on-demand, at these links;

May 25th: 7 p.m. SM North live on Spectrum Cable channel 2, & Consolidated Communications channel 18.


Wednesday, May 26:

6:30 p.m. Horizons graduation live on Spectrum Cable channel 18.


We are not able to offer a cable TV rebroadcast schedule this year to be included in the programs. We have included a printable QR code with directions, that will direct a device to the SMSD YouTube graduation playlist.

After the event, scan the QR code on the form below to view each night's ceremony on YouTube or at later date, be directed to a playlist of all the SMSD 2021 graduation ceremonies, available for downloading and viewing on-demand.
