Weekly Update
October 3, 2021
UPDATE EMERGENCY CONTACTS FOR THE 21-22 SCHOOL YEAR
When a student is released to an emergency contact, it is important to ensure the emergency contact information is current and at least one contact should be local. It is also important for families to know that when they identify an emergency contact in ParentVUE, LCPS will release their child to the people listed in the student record for any of the following purposes:
1. Release to a contact from the clinic
2. Release to a contact for a school emergency
3. Release to a contact for pickup at the bus stop
4. Release to a contact for early dismissal or after-school event
All families should update their information in ParentVUE for the 21-22 school year.
ParentVUE data for emergency contacts will feed Transportation, Safety & Security applications, and all other operational systems that allow a student under the age of 18 to be released to an adult other than the parent or guardian.

COMPLETING VERIFICATION AND FAFSA UPDATES
Verification is the process of “proving” the data submitted on the FAFSA. Typically, about one in three student’s FAFSAs is selected for verification. Until verification on a selected file is completed, no financial aid is packaged for that selected student. NOVA Financial Aid staff members will walk you through the verification process, help you understand what is required and point out areas that cause problems. The sooner you complete the process, the sooner you will know what aid is available for you.

FINANCIAL AID ESSENTIALS – FOR PARENTS
Parental information is required on the FAFSA for most students under the age of 24. NOVA Financial Aid staff members will talk with parents about the financial aid process. Parents will learn what is required of them, from securing their own FSA ID to completing the FAFSA and verification. Parents will learn how to communicate with financial aid staff, what staff members can and cannot share with parents, what to expect in your student’s aid notification, how your student can apply for scholarships, and the academic responsibilities for maintaining financial aid eligibility.

SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS
Many sources of financial aid are available to NOVA students from federal, state, VCCS, institutional and private resources. Almost all of these resources require a “return on investment”. Students must do their part and make reasonable academic progress toward program completion. NOVA Financial Aid staff members will explain the rate of completion and GPA requirements of Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), the extenuating circumstances that could be appealed and the process for doing so, the value of understanding an advisement report and of creating an academic plan.

COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS FOR WINTER/SPRING ATHLETES
Dear Parents/Guardians of LCPS Student-Athletes,
As has been announced, Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) will require proof of a COVID-19 vaccination or weekly testing for those unvaccinated for all students participating in all winter and spring sports and for all out-of-season practices for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year.
To submit proof of vaccination, parents/guardians will follow the same easy process for submitting the VHSL Physical Form. Simply submit a copy of the student’s vaccination card to the athletics department for verification, just like you submit their physical form. For more information, please visit our FAQ’s.
Winter sports participants must be fully vaccinated by November 8, 2021. Fully vaccinated is defined as 14 days after receiving the 2nd dose of the vaccine. First day of winter tryouts is November 8, 2021. Your first shot must be done by October 4, 2021, if you plan to participate in a winter sport and in order to avoid weekly testing until the student is fully vaccinated.
As of September 13, 2021, a total of 82.4% of all Loudoun County 16-17 year-olds were fully vaccinated and 89.5% have had one dose of a vaccine. A total of 69% of all Loudoun County 12-15 year-olds are currently fully vaccinated and 78.8% have had one dose as of September 13, 2021.
LCPS is committed to providing the safest learning environment possible for our students and this vaccination requirement for our student-athletes demonstrates our commitment to the safety of everyone within our schools and communities.
