Early Childhood Fair is a Big Success!
Parents, families, and young children filled the ARMS Library/Media Center tonight as Athol and Royalston held their Early Childhood Education Fair. This was a great opportunity for families to meet teachers and to learn about the variety of preschool programs which are offered to families, as well as home visiting programs and playgroups for families with infants and toddlers. The goal of the fair was to help match families to an appropriated early childhood setting that meets their needs.
There were activities for children and parents, a slideshow on the beautiful, new Athol Community Elementary School (ACES), as well as pizza and other refreshments.
For those who were unable to make this event and wish to have more information, please call the Athol-Royalston Schools Central Office at 978-249-2400.
Thanks to Jen Aldrich, Asst. Supt. Steve Meyer, the principals (including Principal Molly Superchi from Royalston and Incoming Principal Mike Leander from Aces, all the teachers, all the presenters, and everyone involved in making this such a successful program.
And thanks so much to all the parents and families who attended. We are absolutely committed to involving our community in our new Athol COMMUNITY Elementary School! It was great to see you here tonight and to speak to so many of you!

Chet Hall Memorial Pancake Breakfast
Last weekend RCS was full of many familiar faces as we held our 3rd annual Chet Hall Memorial Pancake Breakfast. Those in attendance visited with friends and family as they enjoyed a yummy breakfast. The gym was set up with many auctions and raffles. Each class from RCS collaborated to donate and put together a themed basket. There were bicycles, a game camera, Kitchen Aid mixer, gift card tree and many other donated items. This event is a fundraiser to benefit the Chet Hall Memorial Scholarship. Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered and attended this wonderful event. We hope to see you all at next year's breakfast.
RCS Principal for the Day
As part of the auction at the Chet Hall Memorial Pancake Breakfast, Ms. Superchi donated a certificate for a student to serve as Principal for a day. Mason's name was pulled and he eagerly rose to the occasion! On FridayMason was the Principal of the Day at RCS. He began the day by greeting students as they danced through the doors to "Eye of The Tiger", one of his favorite songs. Mason read to our kindergarten and futures classes. He observed teachers and provided them with feedback via a type-written memo. In addition, he received an important phone call from Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Meyer. He greeted State Trooper Willhite. During lunch times, he passed out Oreo cookies and mandated that every class enjoy extra recess. Lastly, he allowed all students to bring stuffed animals to school on Friday. Mr. Mello took his job very seriously. He kept students on-task learning and ensured everyone had a fun-filled Friday. Well done Mr. Mello!
5th Grade DARE Graduation
Officer Sherry Miner from the Royalston Police Department has been working with Mrs. Patriquin over the past few months to bring the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program to 5th graders at Royalston Community School. The mission of the D.A.R.E. program is teaching students good decision-making skills to help them lead safe and healthy lives. As students completed the program they wrote essays about what they learned about substance abuse, peer pressure and violance and pledged to make healthy decisions. During our recent D.A.R.E. graduation, each student was recognized for their accomplishments. Many local and state officials congratulated students and encouraged them to use skills learned through D.A.R.E. to make wise decisions and to lead healthy lives. We are extremely proud of the 5th grade students for their hard work and accomplishments completing this program.
