Reading Junior High Longhorns
Hello ARJH Longhorn Parents!
This is our final week of school for the 1st Semester of 2022-2023 and we are preparing to make it one that is filled with learning, appreciation and joy. We begin our Final Exam schedule this Tuesday and end this Friday with two exams and early release at 12:15 for our students. If your child misses an exam this week, they will need to make it up the first week back in January after school. The final exam grade will reflect a zero until made up.
We do have quite a few students who were able to exempt a final or two or three and if you are planning to pick up your child early from school this week, please make sure that you follow our pick up procedures. Students can only be checked out early and go home with parent/guardian/relative who is in Skyward as an emergency contact. Please make sure that Skyward reflects accurate emergency contact information for anyone coming to pick up your child. We do not interrupt the testing environment with calls to the classroom. We will call for students during the first 15 minutes of the testing time during review time, but will need to send a runner after testing begins. We have a very structured check-out process in the front office, but we ask that you be patient during historically high volume days (we have had over 300 check outs in one day during finals). Our front office staff is awesome and speedy, but it does take a few minutes to go through our security process- have your drivers license ready!
I am so proud of our Longhorns who have shown so much growth this year and I know that they will continue to grow this Spring academically, socially (and as always- physically as many grow so much taller during this time!). Please let us know if there is anything you need.
Please watch our weekly Reading Report- Coach Walker and our Advanced Journalism students rock this report every week- yes, Best of the Best!
Thank you for sending us the Best of the Best!

SMART TAGS required to ride LCISD Bus
Dear Lamar CISD Parents,
We are requesting every student bus rider be prepared to show their Smart Tag identification badge when they board and exit transportation starting on Monday, November 28, 2022, the first day we return from the Thanksgiving Break.
The Smart Tag ID badge is a safety tool for students, parents, and drivers. The photo immediately identifies the student, and the vertical or horizontal orientation indicates secondary or elementary grade levels. The badge allows parents to check the exact times when a student boards and exits the bus. Additionally, the Parent Portal gives users the ability to see where the bus is in live time.
The Elementary and Secondary Student Handbooks do require students to have their Smart Tag ID badge when they board and exit the bus (see p. 64 for Elementary; see p. 51 for Secondary). Based on the student’s grade level, there may be consequences for a student who does not show their Smart Tag for 5 consecutive days (5 days for Secondary). We encourage parents to visit our district website for more information on Smart Tags in the student handbook https://www.lcisd.org/departments/
For the safety of our students and staff, we want all bus riders to follow this rule and may enforce a “No Tag, No Ride” rule in the future. If your student has not received their ID badge, please contact your campus directly. We appreciate your understanding, and we look forward to working together in making sure all students arrive to school and get home safely every day.
Yours in safety,
Lamar CISD Transportation

Students are issued Smart Tag ID cards with an electronic chip Smart sensor (please do not modify the ID cards, or place holes in the card). The student's name is printed on the front of the card, and there is no student information stored on the card.
It is mandatory for the student to use the Smart Tag ID Badge for any transportation services. If a student does not have their Smart Tag ID for 5 days, a referral will be submitted for possible disciplinary action, which may result in the suspension of transportation service.
