Mrs. Moyers' Message
During the month of March, we will continue to develop growth mindsets through learning the importance of setting goals and problem solving. We’re going to look at some of the things we can’t do YET or don’t know how to do YET or aren’t very good at YET, turn those into goals, and then learn how to identify manageable steps to be able to reach their goals. We’re also going to learn the steps to solve problems that may come up when we’re working towards our goals. Being able to stop, think about the problem and possible solutions, decide on the best solution and put it into action, and then reflect on whether or not it worked is an important skill that will help students in reaching different goals they set for themselves.
You can help your student strengthen their goal setting and problem solving skills at home by telling them about goals you’ve set for yourself and how you solve problems that come up in your efforts to reach your goal. Students learn so much from your examples! Another idea is to help your student set a goal for themselves at home, identify manageable steps to help them reach their goal, and work through solving problems with them as they arise. You could even set a family goal and work through the process together!
