Counselor's Corner
Hi Titan families!
As we march into the next month, we will focus on The Character Trait of Citizenship. At Benefield, we care about our community, classmates, and classrooms. Teachers will be recognizing and rewarding students who obey the school rules, show respect to students, respect school property, and who are helping to keep our school beautiful. Please discuss with your child the importance of making respectful choices to create a unified community and practice good citizenship at Benefield.
We are looking forward to highlighting a variety of colleges, careers, and career paths March 7-11 during our College & Career Week! Each day of the week will be a different theme for students and teachers to participate in. Please see below for a snapshot of the week and look out for the flyer that will be sent home next week with more detailed information. We are also excited to welcome members of the community to Benefield to share about their professions with our students during Career Day, Thursday, March 10th. Be sure and ask your students about the knowledge gained from their interaction and participation in the College & Career Week activities.

Safety at Car Riders
We would like to provide you with some reminders about our safety procedures for car riders. We are adding one more of the utmost importance:
Never drop children off at carriers after 8:45 when staff is already in the building. This puts your child in danger. If you arrive after the doors close, please check your child in at the front office.
Please remember:
1. Please have your child ready to exit the car. For example, have their shoes on and bookbag in hand ready to get out after the vehicle has stopped.
2. Please do not exit your vehicle. If assistance is needed a member of the staff will support your child.
4. Car rider doors will close at 8:45 so that our staff can provide instruction.
Kids Heart Challenge
The challenge closes on March 18, 2022.
Family Engagement Tips
Cooking makes math and reading tasty fun
Cooking with you helps your child practice valuable skills such as reading, following directions, and planning ahead. Have your child read each step in a recipe aloud. Then ask questions like, "Which do I put in first, milk or flour?" You can also challenge your student to do the math of doubling a recipe, or look up cooking terms in the dictionary ("What does mince mean?"). Working with you can also make your child feel useful and needed.
3-5
Support your child when trauma strikes
When children are dealing with a traumatic event in their lives, it can affect their emotions, health, and schoolwork. Whether it is a death, a family problem or even worries about events in the news, be alert for signs of distress in your child. Calmly explain the situation as best you can. Help your child put feelings into words, then say that you will cope with things together. Offer a sense of control by providing chances for your child to make small decisions about things like meals or clothes.
