Electronic Recycling
Prescott College currently uses a certified and ethical technology recycling company, ER2, to dispose of old electronics and batteries (except car batteries). If you have electronics to dispose of please feel free to bring those items to the IT Department in the Ponderosa building on the main campus. If you wish to bring a large number of electronics, please contact IT to make arrangements.
None of our electronics or e-waste will ever see a landfill or reach an underdeveloped, unregulated country that lacks the resources to control and audit responsible recycling practices. We use ER2, an R2 (Responsible Recycling) Certified company, which means they are audited for the accounting and tracking of all material that comes through their doors, from the time they receive it, to the time materials are completely refurbished or returned to their finished commodity form. Additionally, they must maintain proof of the downstream process through on-site auditing and thorough downstream vendor surveys. We receive proof of proper disposal and submit that proof to our Sustainability unit. If you wish to learn more, additional information is available on ER2’s website.
Music at Prescott College
Dear Students,
I'd like to introduce myself to those who don't know me. My name is Jonathan Best and I teach music at Prescott College. I also run a non-profit called comMUSIKey, dedicated to building community through people playing music together.
I am excited to be in the process of moving the music studio to the Sam Hill Gallery where most of the Arts programs are taking place. If you don't know where that is, google Sam Hill Gallery and a map should come up. It's a little off campus but easy walking distance.
Starting October 2nd at 6 pm we will be having an open music group where anything can happen depending on who shows up. In the past we've composed and recorded songs, we've studied music theory, we've done drum circles and ukulele circles. The thread that runs through all of these groups is that everyone is completely musical because our lives are musical. That means that I encourage everyone to come at least once no matter how they fell about their musical abilities. We always find common ground.
I will also be offering free music lessons on any instrument. My main foci are voice, piano, and percussion. Email me at jonathan.best@prescott.edu to set up a schedule or for more information. You can also call me at 928-830-4887.
I'm always looking for interesting ways to integrate music into the curricula of Prescott College. If you have any ideas, outlandish or par for the course, let's talk about them. I love doing independent studies as they provide the most flexibility. We can also do group independent studies.
One very interesting project is with Peter Madsen who is producing an updated version of Hair. His quote: "HAIR is a Love-Rock musical and a product of the hippie counterculture and sexual revolution of the late 1960s; several of its songs became anthems of the anti-Vietnam War peace movement. Peter has updated the musical to reflect topics such as immigration, indigenous rights, transgender rights, police brutality, capitalism, fascism, white privilege, etc." He is looking for players. Email him at peter.madsen@student.prescott.edu.
If you would like to know more about my background, you can go to jonathanbest.com. For comMUSIKey go to comMUSIKey.org.
This studio moving process will be happening over the next few weeks and continue even after the semester starts. If you would like to help out even in little ways, it will be most welcome.
I look forward to talking.
