RESCHEDULED 3rd & 4th Grade Concert and Show. December 1st @ 5 PM
Dear Vanguard West Parents and Guardians,
My name is Zina Sonkina and I am the e Music Teacher here at Vanguard West! I am pleased to announce that we will be having our fall concert for 3rd and 4th grades on Thursday, December 1, 2022 and 5:00 PM in the Vanguard West gym. Our students have been working very hard preparing for this concert for the last months, and we are excited to invite you all.
I am asking that students wear formal attire. This includes, but is not limited to, dresses, dress shirts, dress pants, dress shoes, ties, and bowties. Students do not have to follow the Vanguard West dress code colors. I am also asking that students arrive at their classrooms at 4:40 PM. They may not stay after school for the concert unless they are in the Stars after school program. Lastly, this event is part of the music class participation grade, as performance is a National Music Standard. If your student is unable to attend, I will need a parent or guardian to let me know and they will be exempt from the grade. If your student does not show up to the concert without parent or guardian communication, they will receive a zero for the assignment. You may contact me through:

A signed note brought to me by your student
We are extremely excited to share the music that our Vanguard West students have been working so hard on with families and friends. Thank you so much for sharing your students with me!
Sincerely,
Zina Sonkina, K-8 Music Teacher Vanguard Classical School West

School Closings
With the winter months come the possibility of school closures and schedule changes. The decision to change school schedules because of adverse conditions is based on one factor; the safety of all students and staff.
Vanguard follows the district (Aurora Public Schools ie. Adams-Arapahoe 28J) regarding school closures, late starts, etc.
Vanguard reserves the right to additional closures if deemed necessary.
The Executive Director makes every effort to decide and announce decisions to close school before 6:30 am.
Please refer to your local television stations (KWGN Channel 2, KCNC Channel 4, KMGH Channel 7, KUSA Channel 9, KDVR Channel 31) for official notification.
Vanguard will also announce closures through School Messenger, on Facebook, and on its website.
STARS Closures
In the event of a late start there will not be an am STARS program that day.
If after school clubs and sports are cancelled, STARS will be closed.

Giving Tree
It's almost time for our annual VCS West Giving Tree! This is a perfect way to help someone from our community.
Starting December 1st there will be a tree by the front desk filled with wishes from the VCS West families we will be sponsoring this holiday season.
Each ornament will have needs and wishes (clothing, toys, and more) from our sponsored families. As ornaments get placed on the tree, feel free to take as many as you wish and purchase a gift written on the ornament. Please if you take an ornament, make sure to purchase and deliver the gift to us by December 14, 2022. VCS West staff will wrap the gifts for our families. Sponsored families will pick up wrapped gifts on , 12/16.
Please make sure to only take ornaments from the tree that you are confident you would be able to provide. If you take an ornament and can no longer get the gift noted on the ornament, please place it back onto the tree for someone else to grab.

Hello from the Nurses office!
Hello VCS Families...
A couple reminders from yours truly, Nurse Porter.
Please please do not send any type of medications to school with your student without proper documentation from your child(ren) doctor. This includes anything from cough drops to Tylenol to cough syrup. It may not seem like a big deal, but it could be very dangerous and problematic for our other friends here at VCS. If you need a medication administration form, please stop by my office or let me know via email and I can send home with your child.
Also, it is becoming that time of year we all love, cold and flu season!!
If your child is sick, please keep them home. To be fair to ALL our friends here at VCS, stay home and get them better before returning. If your child is having symptoms before dropping off, if possible just keep them at home.
Thank you all so very much! Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
