Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
Tēnā koutou katoa.
Ka mihi ahau ki te Atua
Ko ia te timatanga me te whakamutunga o ngā mea katoa.
After a soggy start to the week, we are all happy to see the sunshine. The students love being outside on these beautiful clear days.
We farewelled Miss Bowie last Friday and welcomed the fabulous Shelly Taylor as the new teacher in Room 15. Thank you to all the parents who wished Miss Bowie well, we are sure she will find success in all that she does.
We are not selling tickets to our school show through the office this year. Tickets can be bought online from Eventbrite. There is only a certain number of tickets for each show so once they are sold that is it. The price is $6.67, a funny price because we have to add GST and Eventbrite’s commission on top of the $5.00 we charge. If any parent is unsure about accessing Eventbrite, we have set up a QR code to scan on the digital calendar in the school office foyer; scan this and you will be directed to Eventbrite. Alternatively, please see production notice below.
Last week our students had lots of awesome opportunities which they thoroughly enjoyed :
- The Fluoro Golf Day was a great success; thank you Golf NZ for providing this event.
- Mr G took some students to a chess tournament at Mokoia Intermediate, our teams were placed 2nd, 4th and 6th. Clarie de los Santos won the top girl and Alvin Biju was third overall, well done to you all.
- A group of senior students played 7's against Otonga - and won.
Thanks to all of the parents and teachers who make these events possible. We sincerely appreciate you all.
This week some information will go home from our P.T.A. about our School Fun Run which will take place on the 21st October. This is our major school fundraising event. There will be a presentation at assembly this coming Friday, and a notice will also go home on Friday. The students are going to love it ... and they will be excited!
Mr Macmillan is offsite for a couple of weeks, touring the countryside. He will be looking at School Management Systems, Structured Literacy in other schools, attending an RE workshop and then on to Christchurch for an NZCPPA Exec meeting and then the NZPF conference. He will return to us in Week 9.
Take care and enjoy the sunshine while it is here.
Ngā mihi nui
Brigitte Holmes
Acting Principal

DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES
This week Totara Team are leading the Nativity of Mary Liturgy. The Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the day on which we celebrate Mary’s Birthday. It takes place each year on the 8th September. It is celebrated on this date as it is exactly 9 months from the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The celebration of Mary’s birthday makes her feast day different from that of the feast days for other saints. Normally we celebrate their feast days on the day they died. However, we celebrate Mary’s on the day she was born.
The birthday of Our Lady is an important feast day as we rejoice in the joy she was to bring to the world by giving birth to Jesus, the Son of God. By celebrating Mary’s birthday, we are also honouring Jesus and the precious gift of life.
Mary was always faithful to God’s will. She was faithful at the stable in Bethlehem, she was faithful on the flight to Egypt, and she was faithful at the foot of the cross. We should follow her example and be faithful to God’s will in our lives.
Thank you to those who have donated to the Operation Shoe Box appeal. Operation Shoe Box is where each class is given a shoebox to fill with some little gift ideas for a boy or girl who could do with an extra smile on Christmas Day. If you are able to provide a donation that would be amazing. Donations can include - toys, school supplies, hygiene products, clothing, hair accessories etc.
Items NOT to include are: Toothpaste, sweets, lotions and liquids; used or damaged items; war-related items; seeds, gum, chocolate or food items; religious or political literature; medicines, aerosol cans, sharp or fragile items
God bless you and your family this week.
Sara Mines and Lorna Dobson DRS.
