What is Cyberbullying
To tormented, threatened, and harassed someone in a type of way to make them feel uncomfortable.
Three differences between cyberbullying & bullying
Cyberbullying happen 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Most of all cyberbullying is a form of a personal attack that will carry. Bullying is an unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power of imbalance.
Effects of Cyberbullying
- Using alcohol and drugs
- Skip school
- Receive poor grades
- Health problems
- Low self esteem
Prevention & Awareness
- Encourage your kids to tell you immediately if they or someone else is being cyberbullied.
- Have great sense of what your child is doing online to protect them and prevent them for being cyberbullied or doing it
- Communication
- Control your child online activities at all times
- Ask for passwords that your child might have
Establishing Rules
- Appropriate use of computers, cell phones, and other technology.
- Tell them to not share anything that could harm or embarrass themselves or others.
- Tell your kids to keep their password safe.
Report a Cyberbully
- Don't respond to and don't forward cyberbullying messages
- Keep evidence of cyberbullying
- Block the person who is cyberbullying you or others
Report to your Online Service Provider
- Review their terms and conditions or rights and responsibilities section.
- Visit social media safety centers to learn how to block users and change setting to control who can contact you.
Report to your local Law Enforement
- Threats of violence
- Stalking and hate crimes
- Child pornography
Report to your School
- School can use the information use by others to help inform others about prevention and response strategies.
- All schools are required to address cyberbullying in their anti-bullying policy.
