McClure Newsletter

January 2021

Word of the month: Tolerant

Dear Parents and Families,

I think that many of us are excited to say welcome to the year 2021! My hope and plan is that this year will bring great things for our students and families. As we think about and plan for bringing groups of students back to some form of in-person learning please keep your contact information up to date with us, so that you receive the most current information.

We love to see your students connect with us in their google meets. They receive critical instruction during this time and during their recorded video time. Please also make sure that students are completing their class assignments during independent time. Students have assignments scheduled throughout the week that are in addition to their live google meets. If your child has questions on their assignments they can attend their classroom office hours and get help either one-on-one or in a small group. We are looking forward to seeing all of you in person soon.

Please remind your children about our McClure Expectations.

Big picture

Distance Learning Update

  • We will continue to phase in small subgroups for some tutoring and in-person support. We have identified nine subgroups and have completed the phase-in process for four subgroups.

  • The majority of students will remain in 100% online learning at the start of the second semester (quarter 3) on January 25, 2021.

  • Subgroups 1-4 currently receiving some in-person support (mainly students in our special education program) will learn remotely January 4 - 18, 2021. This is in anticipation of a spike of high transmission of COVID-19 after the holidays.

Books, Books, and More Books

McClure has a variety of ways to have your child access books.

You may checkout regular books during Wednesday Curbside pick-up. You will fill out the form in your child's Google Classroom, and then Mrs. Luna and Mrs. Gordon will meet you in the main parking lot between 11:00a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to hand you the books. The form changes weekly, so please go to your child's Google Classroom every week to fill out a new form.

We have many FREE websites that allow the students to checkout ebooks.

Sora:

This is connected to your child's gmail account. Click on the link, and when requested you can enter your child's email and you will have access to ebooks. You can even checkout ebooks from Yakima Valley Libraries through this link.

Epic:

Epic is available Monday-Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Click on the link, and then click on my account. Then enter class code MNZ4589 When you get in, find your students name and enjoy the many books they offer.

JLG:

This is another free service. The login and password is your child's 7 digit school ID number. (This is found on their lunch card). This is free for families, and has different books every month.
