Term 1, Week 10 - Tuesday, 29 March 2022
Thank you for a wonderful term
To our school community, thank you for your contribution to making the first term of 2022 so successful.
I am encouraged by the progress shown by many of our students. The teachers have again risen to greater heights in ensuring all our students are settled in their new classes and are engaged in their learning.
COVID-19 remains in the background of our return to normal operations. We have been very fortunate that we have seen very few cases in our community. I believe your efforts in staying COVID safe, has allowed us to continue with all-important learning for our students.
I wish everyone a very restful and safe holiday and I look forward to students returning on Wednesday, 27th April 2022.

Dear Parents/Carers,
Due to the recent and predicted inclement weather, we have made the decision to postpone our Year 3 and Year 4 excursion to Kamay Botany Bay Environmental Education Centre.

We apologise for the inconvenience and look forward to attending our excursion in better weather conditions.

Parents and Citizens meeting -Thursday 31 March at 2:00 pm
Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday 31 March at 2:00 pm
The P&C encourages your involvement and participation in our school. Helping out is a great way to be involved in your child's school life, get to know the students, other families and contribute to your community. There are many different ways to be involved and participate from volunteering to becoming a P&C executive committee member. It's about everyone doing what they can when they can.
St Marys South P&C is a group of dedicated and hardworking Parents, School Staff and Citizens who operate to promote the best interests of the students and our school.
Our P&C provides invaluable services to the school being responsible for fundraising including raffles, Mothers and Fathers Day stalls, sausage sizzles and school discos which help provide facilities and equipment for the students and school.
The P&C provides a role in representing the parent's voice in a range of school-related topics. The commitment and involvement of the Parents and Citizens help to create a dynamic community at St Marys South Public School, benefiting all our children.
New members and volunteers are always welcome and membership is open to all members of the school community. To become a financial member and gain voting rights it costs $1.00 for the year or you can attend any meeting as a guest.

Pulse Alive
On Tuesday 15th March Mrs Carroll, Mrs Manners and our school choir had the opportunity to participate in Pulse Alive with hundreds of other students from schools across Sydney. This event was the culmination of months of online Zoom rehearsals, and many hours spent rehearsing at school this year.
It was so exciting to finally be back on the stage performing, and we look forward to many more opportunities for our school music groups to perform for our families and friends.
St Marys Zone 2022 Swimming Carnival
On Wednesday 16th March 2022, Liam Petilla and Jacob-Juan Villanueva travelled to Blacktown Aquatic Centre and competed in the St Marys Zone 2022 Swimming Carnival. Both boys proudly represented St Marys South Public School and performed extremely well. Liam and Jacob showed great maturity and acted responsibly throughout the day.

Kindy Capers
The past two weeks Kindy have been learning new sounds, heart words and numbers. They are s, a, t, p, i, n, m, f and our heart words are the, my, The, My and I. The numbers we are working on are 0 – 10.
Kindy will be visiting Calmsley Hill City Farm on Friday 1st April. Students are to wear full school uniform and their hats. Please also send recess, fruit or vegetables for crunch and sip, lunch and a water bottle in their bags. In case of rain please pack a raincoat if you have one. NO umbrellas please.
Just a reminder that Thursday 7th April will be our Easter Hat Parade – students and parents are encouraged to make a hat or mask together at home to wear to the parade. Parents are welcome to attend this event.
Thank you for your continued support of our Kindy students and teachers.

Never enter floodwater. If it’s flooded, forget it.
With the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) predicting more severe weather in a number of areas in the coming days, we want to remind you of the best safety measures to take if you experience flooding, noting also that as many catchments are saturated there is a higher risk of landslides and falling trees.
The major cause of death during floods is from people entering or travelling through floodwater. This includes driving, riding, and walking through floodwater and children playing in floodwater.
Floodwater may be deeper or faster flowing than it appears and can contain hidden debris.
Floodwater can also contain chemicals, raw sewerage, snakes or spiders – and much more that can cause serious injury. Roads and surfaces underneath floodwater can often wash away, and this damage may not be visible from the surface.
Consider the following during periods of significant rain or flood:
- Drive safely – don’t feel pressured by vehicles behind you or your passengers to cross a flooded road. Even emergency services will only enter the water as a last resort.
- Reconsider your need to travel
A 'road closed' or a 'road flooded' sign means that the road is unsafe to travel on. Find alternate ways which are free from floodwater or wait until the ‘all clear’ is given for that road. It is safer to turn around than to enter floodwater.
Please take care, follow the above advice and keep up to date through the Live Traffic NSW, BOM and SES websites.
