Fond Farewell, Job Well Done, and Loss
The Fond Farewell
Mr. Oxley, board, staff, and visitors expressed gratitude to Marcy Hartung, MEA UniServ director, for her many years of dedicated service to the profession of education, and extended well wishes as she transitions into retirement and beyond. The new director, Milton Rehberg, was introduced.
The Job Well Done
Cenergistic, the company contracted to manage the district's energy costs, reported this year's energy savings is an impressive 52.4% as compared to the base year period. Kudos to all involved, from the Cenergistic energy specialist, Jeff Huey, to the extraordinary efforts of district operations and maintenance, to every district staff and visitor that shuts a light off behind them....Job Well Done!
The Loss
A champion for children and education, Martha Spicer, recently passed. Martha served on the JCISD board of education for 15 years, from 1984-1999. She had also been a member on the Columbia School board and the MASB board of directors. She had a true passion for service, kids, and learning. She will be missed.
This, That, and the Other
All Ayes!
It was discovered earlier in the week, one of the boilers at the Torrant Center was failing and in need of immediate replacement. Recognizing the fragile health of the student population, the unpredictability of Michigan autumn and winter temperatures, the board authorized the administration to seek bids and replace the boiler with a cost not to exceed $41,445.
A textbook purchase for the Career Center Computer Information Technology/Programming program was also approved.
