October Tech Tips
Engaging students with student response tools.
There are two sets of 32 ActivExpressions in the media center that are available for teachers to checkout for their classes. These student response devices are a great way to engage students in the learning process, and provide quick feedback to the teacher about student mastery.
You are not just limited to the ActivExpressions to obtain quick student responses. Here are a few websites that are great for allowing students to respond to your questions electronically, and allows teachers to track results.
Each of these tools allow teachers to quickly gauge their classes' level of understanding, provide instant feedback, and give whole class or individual student reports.
1. Classflow- a student response system that allows you to import your ActivInspire flipchart. There are also lesson plans featured for teachers to use.
2. Socrative- another great student response website.
3. Kahoot- a game based classroom response system. See students engaged with Kahoot in the video below.
4. NearPod - in addition to assessing students, teachers can create presentations and control students' devices.
Applications for the classroom:
Teachers can use these tools to create and administer quizzes, discussion questions, surveys, and more.
They can be used as an activating strategy, ticket out the door, formative assessment, as a way to quiz the whole class on key concepts, and obtain feedback about your lesson.
Technology Integration Spotlight!
Mr. Allred's Robotics class created robots. He describes the project below.
This is my Robotics and Automated Systems class. They are working on a competitive robotics. The robot teaches programming skills from easyC computer programming which is a C based programming language. The associates also learn motor control and the inputs, outputs, electrical components that go along with programming a PLC(programmable logic controller). The associates have encountered several problems along the way of building the robot. Therefore, they develop problem solving skills that are real world applicable. The bins in the pictures are labeled and organized for sorting and receiving. They learn the value of an organized shipping and receiving facility and the lean manufacturing process.
Tech Tip:
Technology shouldn't be viewed as something else on your to-do list to include in your lessons. Allow technology to replace something that you are already doing.
