We all know you all have had to work extra hard these past few weeks due to the brief relapse into virtual learning. We thank you all for your patience and commitment to success. We will continue to try to make this year the best one yet while prioritizing the safety of our community. We are thankful for all of our parents, staff, and students who smile whether in or out the building.

"Based on the data reported thus far this week, students will return to school as planned on Monday, August 30 with mask mandates for everyone while inside facilities and on buses. Preliminary numbers do not indicate a need to extend at home learning beyond that time," stated Dr. Angela Williams, BCPS Superintendent.

We are so excited to see all of our students, teachers, and staff when we return this Monday, August 30, 2021!

Burke County Volunteer Fair

Make your way over to Burke County High School for friends, food, and fun! Title I Director, Dr. Jessica Edenfield and Federal Programs Coordinator, Dr. David Skinner are hosting the first district-wide volunteer fair!

There will be opportunities to sign up for different volunteer events in our schools, learn about district initiatives, and so much more!

It will be hosted on

11:00 A.M.- 2:00 P.M.

at the Burke County High School!

'BETA' THAN THE REST

The BCHS Beta Chapter competed at the National Beta Club Convention and all three students placed including our very first National Championship! Pictured from left to right: Jada Curd placed first in Division I Speech, Preston Adkins placed second in Division II Recyclable Art, and Sarah Ann Mallard placed sixth in Division II Speech.

“It was such a privilege to spend time with these phenomenal young people and adults. These Betas are full of gifts and personality and they are remarkably hard working! I have so much respect for them as students and individuals. BCHS Beta plans to work hard next year and do it all again!” stated BCHS Beta Advisor, Tonya Torek.

The students would not have been able to accomplish these feats without the support of their sponsors! The club is especially thankful to these individuals and businesses.

NURSES CORNER

With the steady increase of the Delta Variant, the CDC has advised that all personnel and visitors within the school wear masks regardless of their vaccination status. However, vaccines are still greatly recommended! The FDA has approved the first vaccine, the Pfizer. This indicates that the vaccine meets high standards of safety, effectiveness, and manufacturing.

The CDC has updated their rules and recommendations for fully vaccinated people. You can view those here. Accordingly, when the schools are reopened August 30, there will be a mask mandate so that the safety of our students, teachers, and staff will not be jeopardized.

As always, remain washing hands frequently, social distancing when possible, and staying home when you are not feeling well.

Got produce?

Come on down(town)! If you are interested in meeting the smiling faces behind our fresh produce (or the fresh produce itself) the farmer's market is where you need to be! The items featured will be scuppernongs, tomatoes, squash, watermelons, and okra!

The local farmer's market is hosted every Tuesday

from 5:00 to 7:00 PM

in the Southern Bank Pavilion 855 Liberty Street in Waynesboro, GA.

Let There be 'Write!'

Second grader Melanie Luke is the Young Georgia Authors state winner! Burke County is so proud of her and all of her hard work. Her work entitled 'Swim' had to go through a long process of competition at the school, system, district, region, and state levels to place first overall.

Genesis Bass, a kindergartener from SGA, also won at the CSRA RESA regional level with her exceptional piece 'The Cat.'

We are aspiring to see what they will accomplish in the future!

Updated Football Schedule

Due to the School two-week closure, the Burke County Bears have had to postpone their season to a later date. We thank all of the Bear fans for their patience and prioritization of safety.

The updated football schedule is posted below. For more information, this week's True Citizen article regarding the postponed season is linked in the picture of the football helmet above.

The first game of our season is against Hancock Central September 3 in the one and only Bear Den!

Clearing Car Rider Congestion

Y'all spoke, and we listened! One of the main issues that has been brought to our attention is morning and afternoon traffic in the school zones. We have attempted to resolve this issue by enacting different procedures for speedier pickup and drop off. The new procedures are linked in the graphic to the right.

Bored indoors?

Quarantine can be tough for everybody, especially children. It leaves the days with little excitement... until now! Quarantine is a perfect time to spend some time with the family and participate in fun activities to pass the time. Community Challenge!

This week's Bear Browse offers a bit of competition! We challenge you all to decorate your very best cupcakes. We want creative, artistic, tasty-looking cupcakes that show how sweet our Burke County Bears really are! Out of all the cupcakes sent, the Bear Browse will be choosing 3-5 cupcakes to be featured in the next newsletter! Cupcake images can be posted on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter with the hashtag, #bcpscupcakechallenge2021 Get ready, get set, CUPCAKE!

National Day Calendar

August 26 commemorates National Dog Day, National Women's Equality Day, and last but not least, National Cherry Popsicle Day. Burke County families can celebrate this day by playing a game of fetch with their dog, who is wearing a shirt that represents your favorite woman, and then sharing a cherry Popsicle! (You should also be wearing a shirt that represents your favorite woman because where is the fun in not matching with your dog on National Dog Day?) For some fun with the family, you may even go the extra mile to make your own cherry Popsicle! A recipe for those can be found here! (And to left is my dog Bentley, who is so happy to meet you all-he told me himself.)

Blackboard - notifications

The Blackboard mass notification system is useful to BCPS families and our faculty/staff because of its ability to deliver district-level and school-specific notifications.

The school system and schools use your student's information in Power School to send email, phone calls, text messages, and emergency notifications to families.

Efficiency depends greatly on parents/guardians providing us with correct phone numbers and email addresses.
