FAC Weekly Update
February 17, 2022
Good morning, Fine Arts Center Family
It is hard to believe, but we are now 2/3 of the way through the 2021-2022 school year. Our Seniors have only 60 days left with us...our Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors have 61. Why are we counting? Not because we want the time to pass; quite the opposite. We're not counting the days...we're making them count. We love being with our students and want to enjoy every minute we have with them. Let's all enjoy a restful long weekend, and pick up again next Tuesday with an unmatched gratitude, passion and dedication for being in a place where we get to do what we love!
Here is the latest from the halls of the Fine Arts Center...
This Week's Student Leadership Lesson
“An amateur lets the negative opinion of others unman him. He takes external criticism to heart, allowing it to trump his own belief in himself and his work….
…With four holes to go on the final day of the 2001 Masters (which Tiger [Woods] went on to win, completing the all-four-majors-at-one-time Slam), some chucklehead in the gallery snapped a camera shutter at the top of Tiger’s backswing. Incredibly, Tiger was able to pull up in mid-swing and back off the shot. But that wasn’t the amazing part. After looking daggers at the malefactor, Tiger recomposed himself, stepped back to the ball, and striped it 310 down the middle.
That’s a professional… The professional cannot allow the actions of others to define his reality.”

Callisto Quartet at the Peace Center
Praised for their “intensity and bravado” and the "cohesion and intonation one might expect from an ensemble twice their age," the Callisto Quartet brings together four dedicated and passionate musicians who share a love for chamber music and a desire for excellence. Since their formation in 2016 at the Cleveland Institute of Music, the quartet has quickly garnered top prizes in nearly every major international chamber music competition and praise from audiences across North America and Europe. Grand prize winners of the 2018 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and Second Prize Winners of the 2019 Banff International String Quartet Competition, the Callisto Quartet has also taken home prizes from the Bordeaux (2019), Melbourne (2018) and Wigmore Hall (2018) competitions.

FAC Green Artists Club
FAC Green Artists will have our year's first Adopt-a-Highway project after school on Thursday, Feb. 24 (weather permitting). We will meet up in the Music Library after school, and head out around 4:00 after traffic dies down a little. Our road clean-ups usually last around an hour or so and are good for volunteer credit hours. We will provide you with gloves, orange vests, and trash bags. Come help us beautify Pine Knoll Rd, and bring some friends!
For more information about the group, please contact Richard Young rwyoung@greenvilleschools.us or Matthew Revilla mrevil3236@greenvilleschools.us
