Word Work
This week in Word Work we will...
discriminate between/ g/ and long /w/ in the beginning of words.
isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds in three-phoneme words.
identify the sound of w and g
write a letter or letters for most consonant and short-vowel sounds (phonemes).
Shared Reading
This week in shared reading we will...
confirm understanding of a text read aloud or information presented orally or through other media by asking and answering questions about key details and requesting clarification if something is not understood. Segmenting sounds in words and writing the corresponding letters to spell words.
identify real-life connections between words and their use.
make, confirm and revise predictions.
identify the sight words “of” and “they”.
Grammar
This week is Grammar and Writing we will...
draw and write in order to respond to a text.
draw and write in order to inform.
identify sounds in words, then writing the matching letters.
identify verbs as action words.

Centers

- practice letters/sounds, sight words, and compound words.
- follow directions in order to create pet in clay.
- practice math skills on the computer using Dreambox.

Math
Unit 4 Investigation 2: Counting
This week in math we will...
add or subtract one to/from numbers up to ten
model the action of combining and separated situations.

Content

identify ways to care for our pets.
identify and name different types of pets.

Westy Reading Race
Below you will see what the Westy Reading Race form looks like. You need to color in a section for each 15 minutes your child reads or you read to your child. Make sure that their name is on the form along with your signature and the total number of minutes that were read.
This week's due date is Friday, March 24th.
Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) Field Trip
We will be taking our final field trip this year to the BMA. The trip will be on Wednesday, April 5th. We will be leaving West Towson around 9:45 and return around 1:00. Since we will be late for lunch we are having students bring a snack to eat on the trip to tie them over until we return.
We are allotted 2 chaperones for the trip. If you are interested please let me know. I will be drawing names this Thursday, March 23rd.

Volunteer Training
Birthday Celebration
We will celebrate monthly birthdays on the last Friday (if possible) of each month. Parents are welcome to celebrate their child's birthday with us. Please make sure that you have completed and returned the volunteer application and training/certificate. There is no food allowed at these celebrations. However, your child may choose to share a book for our class library, a game for indoor or outdoor recess, a small item like a pencil, or a craft to do during the celebration.
