Bad Joke of the Week

Why couldn't the bicycle stand up?

FINALS FRENZY!

That's right boys and girls, it's that time of the year again. No, not Christmas time. Before you even think about wrapping a present or watching A Christmas Story, you have to prepare yourself for finals. Let's look at some good study methods for your classes, along with some input from some students and teachers on their opinions of finals.

Study Tips

  • Don't wait until you 'feel' like studying...nobody ever really feels like studying. You just have to buckle down and start.
  • Be sure to talk to your teacher about the format of the exam, knowing what you're getting into is always helpful.
  • Set goals for yourself while you're studying, it's always helpful to work towards something.
  • Be sure to give yourself plenty of short breaks and rest, a tired brain is a sad brain.
  • Avoid caffeine...that's just a general life tip.
  • While studying, turn off or avoid anything that could potentially be a distraction. Interrupting your brains process while studying could just waste your effort.
  • It's dangerous to study alone...take a friend! (or a few)
  • Cover up your notes and quiz yourself every now and then.
  • Textbook questions and online study guides are generally pretty useful (if they exist).
  • When you think you're done and know everything, study for another 30 minutes. Chances are you don't actually know it all.

Student Opinions

"I never study for finals, I think they're easy most of the time." -Cole Flamion

"I think they're necessary...but they could be a little easier." -Ben Swaney

"They're stressful..." -Hailey Carman

"I'd rather not take them." -Megan Sandage

"I don't think I've ever passed a final..." -Lexy Thomas

Teacher Opinions

-"They wear me out..." -Mrs. Edmonson

"I think they are a great way to assess all skills learned during the semester, and a way to keep the students busy all week long." -Mrs. Hollinden (of the library)

"Finals are stressful time for students, and for teachers, that's necessary to see progress that has been made." -Mr. Hayes

"They're a necessary evil." -Mrs. Kehl/Mr. Teague

"Finals are a great way to see if students have attained the knowledge of the first semester." -Mr. Lacy

Riddle me This.

First person to answer this gets a shout-out on the next Marksmen Minute!

What tastes better than it smells? (hint: this is a fact, not an opinion)

Congratulations to Josh Kimbril for getting the last riddle right! For those of you who couldn't guess it, the woman was blind and reading in braille.
