1954 Public Schools
- In 1954 there were schools for whites and then there were schools for African-American. If the school was ways away from a African-American persons home, it did not matter.
- Brown v. Board of Education was a lawsuit about a girl named Linda Brown, who was colored. The school she had to go to was for African-American kids. This school was 1 mile away from her home. Linda had to walk to school everyday until her parents thought about why she couldn't go to the school for the whites 7 blocks away. So Mr. Brown filed a court case along with other violated African Americans. They were all put under the case of Brown vs. Topeka Board of Education. The judges ruled that black children are being violated in Topeka schools. Much later after the lawsuit, the Supreme Court decided that segregation in public schools unconstitutional.
The Montgomery Bus Boycott
The Montgomery Bus Boycott was an event where the African-American people of Montgomery boycotted against using the buses . They boycotted after Rosa Parks got arrested for sitting in the front of the bus instead of the back of the bus, where the African-American's were supposed to sit. The boycott lasted from December 1, 1955 to December 20, 1956. The U.S. Supreme Court decided the Montgomery segregated buses unconstitutional.
