Class of 2023
We are in this Together!
Welcome Back from Spring Break!
Checkin' In...
We wanted to check in to see how all of our Class of 2023 is holding up. We know that this can be an overwhelming time for everyone. We hope that in these past weeks, you have been able to catch up on sleep, family time, relaxing a bit, and maybe playing catch-up in the classes you were slipping in. While this pandemic is terrible and being away from school is a bummer, we’re hoping you make the most of this opportunity. As you have already heard, we are starting virtual learning on April 20th. Please take advantage of the opportunities you are given if you are hoping to improve your grades.

Ready or Not, Here we Go…
We’d like to start by saying this is the first time that teachers are going to be going live and or conducting business in this platform, with that, we’d like to remind you to ..Be Patient!!! Some are going to be on it and maybe used these virtual platforms in the past and for other teachers, this is like a foreign language to them. Be patient, ask for help when needed, and do your very best to do as much as you can. Teachers may not even start posting anything until April 20th.
What can you do to prepare for Virtual Learning
* Organize yourself. Set up a quiet work space where you can connect to online classes and complete your assignments. If you haven't cleaned out your backpack in a while, now would be a good time.
* Set a schedule. The district has come up with a mock schedule of when you should be working on certain classes but use that as a guideline and then do what works for you. Make sure to add into your schedule time to get some fresh air and stretch those legs. NOTE: if you have two classes in the same block, for example if you are taking a Performing Art and PE class but you don’t have history, then use the history block to do one of your other classes (art or PE).
*Haven't finished that makeup work yet? Now is the time! Whether it is accepted or not, completing this work will get you caught up for the new material that will be taught.
*Mentally prepare yourself to succeed. This is a new way of learning for you and will require a lot of self-discipline. If you want to succeed, you will have every opportunity, but you need to prioritize and put in the work.
GLC SUMMER APPOINTMENTS …
We are looking forward to our summer registration appointments that will lead us into sophomore year. Those of you that did not sign up for an appointment during the registration window were automatically assigned one. The appointment information was sent to your school email account. Please add this appointment to your calendar and make sure your parents are aware as a parent/guardian must be present for this meeting. Please continue to check your school email daily for important updates from us (your GLCs), DBHS, and our district office.
GLC Roles during the next 6 weeks…
We will be available Monday-Friday if you are in need of assistance. We will be contacting some of you and possibly your parents if we are concerned about a failing grade.. YIKES! If you have any concern, please feel free to reach our to us through email and we can email you back or give you a call. Leave us a good contact number and make sure to answer your calls if it says “no Caller Id” because that is how our phone numbers will show up when we call you back. If you just need to talk, vent, are feeling down, reach out so we can talk you through it. If you have something to share that’s positive as well, of course we would love to hear that as well. We miss you all so much and can’t wait to all be back together again.
Glass Half Full Kind of Thinking…
We would have to say, this is one time that being a freshman really has its perks. We (GLCs) have been on weekly calls with admissions officers, UCs, Private schools, etc., and never in the conversation are they worried about how this will impact the class of 2023! YAY! Freshmen year is important but not as important as the sophomore and junior year grades and test scores. Therefore, we lucked out in the mess of the pandemic, just finish as best you can wrap up this year. We will continue to update you of any changes that will impact us, the Class of 2023.
Like we said earlier, Class of 2023, we miss you a ton and can’t wait to see you all soon. In the meantime, we will work to support you with anything you need, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us! Mrs. Burns & Mr. Gonzales
