Student Learning Outcomes
- Understand how to apply systems thinking to set priorities and manage organizational complexity
- Apply expository, persuasive and narrative writing skills necessary to advocate for the school, its accomplishments and its needs.
Original task: Written Improvement Action Plan Narrative using the following outline to guide response and uploaded as a word document essay to Blackboard:
- Purpose
- Background/Current Reality
- Vision and Theory of Action
- Write a Theory of Action statement
- Measurement
- Action/Strategies
- Tasks
Reimagined task: Digital poster to organize the key pieces as a current form of communication, supported by graphics and less text to engage all stakeholders. In addition, presenting the digital poster in a forum for feedback using a QR code that links to a survey to capture written peer feedback alongside the forum discussions for further reflection.
SAMR Model - Redefinition of Task
The original task was to write a paper based on the outcomes of previous activities leading up to the final strategic plan. I had considered a graphic organizer to help the students find new ways of outlining and communicating their plans to class peers using a PPT presentation.
Redefinition of Task Addresses more SLO's through Creative and Collaborative Processes
After working through our FLC, I shifted my thinking to provide an experience that meets the components of demonstrating an understanding and application of strategic planning for a school site while also enhancing the experience to become more relevant for today's leaders. By utilizing digital posters to communicate their plan, they process the information more creatively and in a way that can be used as a current communication plan. By using a forum with QR codes linked to digital surveys to capture peer feedback, peers can engage in deeper conversation and then review feedback at a later time online in order to revise thinking as needed.
