We're learning...

Last week we read The Jolly Postman by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. We learned how to write a friendly letter and practiced writing the full date. We ended the week by writing a letter to the Jolly Postman and doing a winter-themed directed drawing.

Now we are focusing on one famous fairy tale that is highlighted in The Jolly Postman--The Gingerbread Man. We will be reading different versions of the story throughout the week and doing some fun gingerbread activities.

In math we are working on even and odd numbers, identifying and counting coins (focusing primarily on dimes, pennies and nickels) and using a number line as a math tool. The Home Links math pages for this week and next week are Home Link 3-2, 3-4, 3-5, 3-6, and 3-7.

We will continue working on decoding words with blends (sl, cl, br, sn, etc.) and digraphs (sh, th, wh, ph, ch) this week. Next, we will move on to decoding long vowel patterns in words while reading.

Thank you!

Thank you to everyone that sent in dry erase markers! I really appreciate it.

Students need to bring snow gear to school whenever there is snow on the ground. They must have snow pants, waterproof snow boots, gloves, hats and coats to play in the snow. If students do not have appropriate snow gear they will have to stay on the blacktop for recess.

Please continue to send in gloves, hats, scarves and warm coats with your child each day. We will still be going outside for recess in the winter unless the wind chill is too low.
