Why be a Marauder Student-Athlete?

Benefits of Education-Based Athletics:

As an athletic department we strive to support the mission of Mount Olive School District. Athletics is not a diversion, but rather an extension of a good educational program. Students who participate in athletic programs tend to have higher grade-point averages, better attendance records, lower dropout rates, and fewer discipline problems than students generally.

Facilitating a complete athletic program is Inherently EDUCATIONAL. Coaches are responsible for providing valuable lessons and skills for practical situations – like teamwork, fair play, and hard work. Student-athletes are responsible for putting forth a genuine effort, being open to learn, and adhering to individual and team responsibilities.

Through participation in athletic programs, students are offered the opportunity to learn self-discipline, build self-confidence and develop skills to handle situations. These are qualities students need if they are to become responsible adults, productive citizens, and skilled professionals.

Athletics promotes overall health and well-being. Mental and physical health are improved through activities. Self-concept, self-image, physical activity, and weight management are a few of these health benefits supported through athletic participation.

Athletics Foster Success in Later Life.

Participation in high school activities is often a predictor of later success and becoming a contributing healthy member of society.

"One Coach Will Impact More Young People in One Year Than the Average Person Does in a Lifetime" - Dr. Billy Graham

Fall Sports - Half Way There!

Gymnastics - The High School Gymnastics team is currently 3-1. Sophomore Morgan Ryerson has dominated vault. Freshman Natalie Watson swings big on bars with top scores for our team. Freshman Lille Lijewski is so graceful on the balance beam. Juniors Sofia DiDomenico and Sophia Lemongello have performed outstanding routines on floor exercise. The team continues to work hard in practices working on skills to improve start values. We are so proud of a fantastic start to the 2021 Gymnastics season!

Cross Country - Cross Country is currently prepping for the main competition season. We've competed at 3 batch meets and multiple invitationals, where we've watched all of our runners progress and hone the craft of racing. Our runners are currently prepping for NJAC Championships, The Morris County Race, and Sectionals. Notable performances have come from Freshman Allison Rambo, who won her Freshman Race at the Magee Memorial Class Meet and performed in the top 4 or better at all 3 batch meets. On the boys side, Ryan Melendez placed 14th in the Junior Class race at the Magee Memorial Class Meet and finished in the top 10 of each batch meet.

Boy's Soccer - The Mount Olive Boys Soccer team is off to a great start at 8-0. Lead by Captains Eli Conway, Cole Rogan, Jackson Waldstein, James Atkinson, and Kyle Birmingham the marauders have earned the 2 seed in the Morris County Tournament. At the half way point they are atop of their division and are looking to make a deep run into county and state tournaments.

Football - The Mount Olive Football team is now 2-2 after beating Wayne Valley last week. They've gone through some growing pains replacing so many starters but they are starting to gel and are getting better. Hunter Perez has been a workhorse for the team carrying the ball 62 times the past 2 games for over 300 yds.

Tennis - This season has been quite exciting for our team, especially for our seniors who have seen the growth in our program over the past few years. We are currently 5-4. Every single one of our matches have been extremely close, which makes it for a much better learning experience for all of us. This is the first season since 2015-2016 that we are in the state tournament. We had our best performance in recent years at the Morris County Tournament with three people winning a match. We still have four matches left this season, so our team goal as of right now is to finish with a .500 record. Our JV team has had their best season ever with a 6-1 record. A lot of this improvement is a credit to the player's commitment to working during the off season

Girls Soccer- Girls Soccer started off our season very strong with wins against Pope John, Parsippany Hills, and Newton. We were then faced with a few tough losses against Sparta, West Morris, and Blair Academy. We worked on improving some key aspects of our play, like finishing and connecting passes, and examined film. This was just in time to win our first county game against Morristown-Beard, and we most recently won against Montville yesterday. We're eager to keep the momentum going and finish the second half of the season strong!.

Cheer - Mount Olive Cheer has been busy this month with performances for our staff and students. We have supporting and enjoying FNL and wishing all our fall teams’ success. Up next we will be showing our support alongside our recreation programs and community events. Our competition team has also been working hard on their routine and getting ready for their first competition coming up in November.

Field Hockey - Field Hockey keeps working hard and impressing, although they will be traveling to Madison for the first round of the Morris County Tournament, we expect them to make a deep run in the county tournament. They are currently in 1st place in their conference with a record of 4-4

Unified Sports - The MOHS Unified Soccer team is in its 3rd week of the season and is off to a great start. We have played West Morris Central after only one practice, and although we lost by several goals, it was a great game! Our partners and athletes are working together training and having fun at each practice and game. This week the team is playing away at Voorhees on Thursday and next week on Thursday we will play Sparta at Tinc. #unifiedsoccer #unifiedgeneration #sounifiednj
