Linden Athletics Monthly

A Message From the Athletic Director

With the fall season coming to an end for all sports in the next few weeks, we are already looking forward to the winter season. A lot of our athletes are currently resting their bodies while they stay caught up with their grades. There are a lot of positives to reflect on this past month, but the best thing to celebrate in my opinion are the 59 varsity athletes who have earned Flint Metro League Scholar Athlete. To qualify for this award you have to be in 10-12th grade and a varsity letter winner with a cumulative G.P.A. of a 3.5 or above. With the amount of student-athletes that are earning grades that high, I am not surprised with how we handle ourselves on and off of the playing surface. This month has shown me yet again that this is a very special community and we have a lot to be proud of. Adversity has struck for a few of our programs, yet we continue to handle ourselves with pride and an extreme level of class. Happy Halloween and Go Eagles!

A message from the coaches

"Linden's Varsity Cheerleaders attended MaxAthletics camps and a Total Effects Jump and Flexibility clinic this summer. Our team's commitment to working hard every day was remarkable. This helped improve their stunting and gymnastics while building a stronger culture within the program. We had 64 youth cheerleaders attend our Youth Cheer Clinic while the MS program and the alumni joined us during the 2021 homecoming game. We had 28 alumni cheerleaders ranging from the graduating class of 2021 to 1979! Also, thank you to all those who donated to our Vertical Raise fundraiser, including Niles Industrial Coating, LCC in Fenton who donated money towards our new weights! The cheer program wouldn't be the same without the outstanding support of our parents and donors!" - Sideline Cheer Coach, Rosa Spannagel

"The Varsity Football team ended their season this last Friday 24-27 to North Branch. That left the team just out of the playoffs. Four of our six losses were by a combined 11 points. I would like to thank the 9 seniors for all their hard work and dedication. With the return of 27 underclassmen, the future looks bright!" - Varsity Football Coach, Denny Hopkins

Congratulations to our Boys Cross Country Team - Flint Metro League Champions!

"Linden XC has had a very strong season thus far. The biggest races have yielded the biggest rewards as the Boy's team came out on top of the Flint Metro League as well as the Greater Flint County Meet. In addition, the team qualified for the State meet after finishing 2nd at Regionals to a very strong Pinckney Squad. They will once again be looking to surprise at MIS. The guys made a decision to be great this summer, running and being accountable to each other when it wasn't easy. They are an extremely intelligent, dedicated, and coachable group of runners." - Varsity Boys Cross Country Coach, Trevor Hall

the anti-athletic eligibility list

This list is created to show off the teams who have went a week (or multiple weeks) with no student-athletes on the eligibility list. Because some sports ended half way through the month, there will be no pizza party given to the team who had the most weeks on the anti-eligibility list. Keep up the great work!

Varsity Volleyball - 4 weeks

JV Volleyball - 4 weeks

Freshman Volleyball - 3 weeks

Girls Golf - 3 weeks

Boys Cross Country - 2 weeks

Sideline Cheer - 2 weeks

JV Boys Soccer - 2 weeks

Girls Cross Country - 1 week

Varsity volleyball, even though they are still competing in the state tournament, need to be recognized for going through the whole season without one girl on the eligibility list! Great job ladies, you have set the bar high for other programs to reach for!

Fall Senior Night

FML Leadership Summit

We were able to take 11 of our sophomores/juniors to represent Linden at the Flint Metro League Leadership Summit this past month. Our students represented us very well and learned a lot about leadership. They listened to national speakers, referees, and coaches talk to them about topics such as what it means to be a leader/mental health/nutrition.

The group was asked "What is leadership?" in one of the breakout sessions and this was their response:

Setting a good example

Holding teammates accountable

Doing the right thing even if it's the uncomfortable decision

Putting yourself in uncomfortable situations

Someone who is good at fighting through adversity

Puts the team over themselves

Encouraging others

Straight forward

Takes action against problems

Is able to receive and give constructive criticism

First volunteer

Someone who doesn't complain

Takes action if you want something more
