Friday Focus

Holy Name of Mary, March 22, 2019

Happy Friday!

Hi everyone,

What a week! We finally got our portable classes moved into the new addition on Monday. There is still plenty of work to be done to get things looking finished, but it feels great to have you all together in the building!

Thank you to everyone who pitched in on the weekend and on Monday morning to get everything unpacked and set up in our new classrooms in a very short timeframe. We really appreciated your patience as we sorted out the many issues (Wifi, Smart Boards, heat, clocks, projectors, keys!) that needed to be resolved in the new addition this week. Everyone did an amazing job of being flexible and just rolling with it. We love that about you!

Have a great weekend!

Positive Feedback

We received these two great letters from The Hunger Stop and the Terry Fox Foundation regarding our school's food drive and fundraising efforts this year.

Thank you to Mary for all her hard work and dedication to organizing these fundraising events year after year, and thank you to the whole staff for encouraging our students to give generously and to support others who are in need.

Computer Refresh

We know how hard it was to part with your beloved computers and iPads yesterday! Thank you for giving them up and making do without them as our computer gurus swapped them out.

We are still working on locating close to 20 missing iPads. Please have another look for any iPads you may have missed. Brad will remotely disable any that we are unable to locate.

We will label and distribute new computers to all classes on Friday. Each computer and iPad will be inputted into a spreadsheet by serial number and assigned to a specific classroom. All laptops and iPads must be turned in and accounted for at the end of the school year.

It is critical that these new computers and iPads be well cared for. Please designate a location in your classroom where computers are to be stored and charged every night. A Tech Expert from the Technology Club will come around to regularly check that everything is in good working order as part of our Tech Club''s service to our school community.

First Impressions

I know how busy each of you is here at school. Everyone’s plate is so full. But I want to thank those of you who make that extra effort to make sure that our hallways and classrooms are being kept neat and tidy. I know your time is precious. However, it does make a big difference.

On Thursday we had an unexpected visit from two police officers. As we walked down the primary hallway past the brightly decorated classrooms and rows of neatly aligned winter and rubber boots, one of the two officers commented on how excited she was to have a chance to visit our school. She is considering moving to Almonte with her young children, and it was clear that we made a great first impression.

I sincerely want to thank each of you who make the extra effort to help make our school a beautiful, welcoming place. It is much appreciated.

Great Stuff

There were SO many awesome things happening around the school this week, both inside the building and out at tournaments. Click on any of the smaller photos to see a close-up!

Late addition to the newsletter: Congratulations to Lee and the Senior Boys Basketball team on their BIG win at St. John Catholic High school yesterday! They went 5-0 to win the large school A Championship. The boys played hard and were great sportsmen and represented HNOM well. Thank you so much to Lee for coaching and to Victoria for taking the boys to the gym every day at lunch to practice!
