Nurse News
State testing is right around the corner and this is just a reminder that if your child has glasses please make sure they wear them to school EVERY day. It is important for your student to be successful on their tests and if you can help the teacher by making sure they are wearing their glasses everyday that is one giant step toward them being successful. I have recently sent out reminders of the kids that did not pass their school vision screening and need to be further evaluated by an eye doctor. If you have questions, let me know.
As always please feel free to contact me at the school at anytime with questions or concerns and, together, we can answer the questions and help to keep your children healthy and in school everyday. Kris Pfeifer, RN, School Nurse.
Green Schools Recycle Bank
Great news! Our school has been selected for the Recycle bank Green Schools Program. This program helps provide funds to our school to utilize for a “green project.” See info below on how the process works.
Don’t worry if you are not part of Waste Connections or Recycle Bank. Anyone can sign up free for an account. With your account you can watch videos, view slideshows, and take quizzes to earn points. Through a free account you can then donate your points to McLean.
These funds will be used to fund our project to install water bottle filling stations in our building. Bottle fillers will minimize plastic bottle waste and encourage hydration throughout the day. Water helps keep the brain, muscles and body working properly. Increasing our students’ access to water will have a direct, positive impact on their success on school. Thank you for taking the time to visit Recycle Bank, donate your current points, sign up for a new account, and spread the word to friends and family!
How You Can Help:
Donate Your Points.
Recyclebank will turn points into real dollars. In fact, for every 250 points donated, $1 will go to our project. That’s why we need you to visit Recyclebank.com/greenschools and donate points to our project. If you’re not a Recyclebank member, you can sign up at Recyclebank.com and earn points online.
Spread the word about our Green Schools project.
Please tell your friends, family and other community members about our project. Don’t forget about the power of social media either! Facebook, Twitter and other sites can help us reach the largest possible audience.
Here’s the best part of the Recyclebank Green Schools Program – everybody wins! All we have to do is raise the points.
Thanks so much for helping us meet our goal. We have until March 16, 2018, so don’t delay, please donate to our school today!

Hello All! February flew by and boy was it a busy month! PTA had some great volunteers at the school wide Measurement Olympics and it was a ton of fun to get to help. Also, I want to give a big thanks to all those that donated food for our PTA teacher luncheon during conferences and to all those awesome room parents that helped make the class Valentine’s Day parties a success. I want to give a huge shout out to Devin Javens and all her wonderful helpers for all their hard work and long hours spent on the spring book fair Paws for Books.
Our next big event is the Bingo Night and Raffle on Friday March 9th at 5:30. It will be at North High cafeteria. We will be serving walking tacos starting at 5:30 and Bingo starting at 6:30. Make sure you keep an eye out for a flyer coming home with more details and raffle information. We’ve got some great raffle prizes! Also, don’t forget this Friday is the deadline for classroom basket donations, these items will be used as the Bingo prizes. This will be a fun event for the whole family and we hope to see you all there!
Our next PTA meeting will be on March 13th at 6:30 in the library. As always, thank you to all our wonderful volunteers and teachers!
