Bronco Family Newsletter

Finals Week is Upon Us!

Greetings Bronco Families!

We have only one more full week of school, and then three minimum days of finals- before our Winter Break! This is an important time, and we have some things planned to help our students get ready.

After school study sessions: Some of our staff will be hosting subject specific study sessions where students can come do work and prepare for finals, and get subject help from 3:30-4:30 after school. See below for the schedule!

Finals Fuel: For each day of finals, our leadership class will have morning treats for students available in the forum. In order to make this work, they will be reaching out to ask for donations- parents who would like to donate for finals fuel can contact Kourtnie Howerton at howertonk@mdusd.org.

Food services will be serving breakfat, brunch and will also have some bagged lunches available for students to take during finals week (brunch is 33 minutes long)

As a reminder, A period finals are this Friday, beginning at 7:33am. First period begins this day at 9:40. Finals are embedded into our bell schedule beginning December 16th for A period, and running December 19-21 for all other classes. Please take a look at the master calendar - Finals happen in reverse class order in the winter, so Monday is Periods 6 and 5, Tuesday is periods 4 and 3, then Wednesday is periods 2 then 1. Each day, school begins at 8:30 (no A period these days) and ends at 1:10.

Some reminders as we head into the last couple of weeks:

  • Doordash and other food delivery services are NOT allowed on campus. Please remind your student and note your accounts as necessary. Parents bringing food to their students need to drop off deliveries to the main office. Breakfast, Brunch and Lunch are served free from our cafeteria!
  • Parent drop offs cannot occur in the back of the school. Our designated drop off area is on Castle Rock just past the main school building. Please do not drive to the back parking lot- this is for staff parking only, and parent drivers and drop offs create additional unnecessary safety hazards and traffic.
  • Thank goodness for rain! With this, our roads and crosswalks may be slick- please slow down at all driveways and crosswalks and be extra careful for pedestrians. I recently completed a traffic study with the city of Walnut Creek and we are looking at various ways to make our commute path safer for our students. In the meantime, all drivers can do their part by slowing down, looking for cyclists and walkers, and following the rules of the road. (no u-turns on Castle Rock!)
  • With the flu, COVID-19, and all of the various winter bugs going around, please feel free to remind your students we have masks AND Covid tests available in the front office. Please also remember to call or email the attendance office when your student is out sick- clearing these absences is important! You can call x3505, or email nhsattendance@mdusd.org. If your student tests positive for COVID, we must be informed so that we can continue to follow county safety and reporting protocols, and we can guide families for a safe return to school.

Now time for some great news- Here are just a few things that have been going on in Bronco land these past few weeks!

  • Student Excellence Honored! You should have received a newsletter of student excellence for the first quarter back in November- here are all four grade levels should you want to see who and what we celebrated! More to come at the end of the semester.

  • With huge kudos to our Social Studies department for their collaboration, time and efforts, our seniors had a great Mock Congress this year! Seniors were impressive in their preparation, arguments and collaboration, and our Presidents Pro Tempore and Party Whips for each senate did outstanding jobs as leaders in their spaces - it was a wonderful effort all around! Great job to our seniors!
  • Winter Concert season is upon us, and congratulations to our choirs, improv teams, and instrumental music programs for their wonderful productions! Still to come: Drama II in a 'Shakespeare Bachelorette' on Tuesday at 7pm, 'Strummin' for the Seasons' by our guitar program Wednesday at 7pm, and in January our dancers will put on their first production on January 12th at 7pm in the gym.
  • The Northgate Sentinel continues to produce outstanding content- did you know that the sentinel staff, led by Ms. Karen Jenkins, won 10 journalistic awards last year? The most notable were 1st place for Overall Excellence for a Journalism Club and 3rd place for Overall Excellence in Web Design. Be sure to check out the sentinel here.
  • With the help and organization of Mr Rosecrans and Ms Valle, our Northgate extensive needs program was able to compete at San Ramon Valley HS in the NorCal Special Olympics for Soccer - and won their first game!
  • Winter sports are underway, and our athletes are coming out strong! This includes a strong girls basketball start with Varsity ranked #2 in Division 2 for NCS, and a 5-0 start. Our Cheer program has engaged in their first competition season since at least 2018, and finished 3rd this weekend at a Jamz competition. JV Wrestling competed this weekend at the Foothill Invitational and three of our athletes - Danikka Valadez, Joylyn Jayko, and Giana Papas brought home a gold, with several others medaling as well! There are MANY opportunities to come and support winter sports - see below for some upcoming events! Boys basketball, and both boys and girls soccer teams have strong starts and have multiple games on the horizon!
  • ASB Leadership has been hard at work planning events for our community! They recently hosted their 2nd Annual Winter Craft Fair, where vendor participation doubled from the previous year! It was a wonderful event featuring our local businesses and artisans. They also hosted a fun 'Parent's Night Out' this weekend, playing host to children so that community parents could steal away a few hours for shopping or festivities!

As always, there is way more happening on campus than we can accurately report here. Keep up by following Northgate High School on Twitter - @northgatehs

Have an excellent week, and GO BRONCOS!

Athletics Code of Conduct Reminder

As we get into our Winter athletic season, it is important that we remind our parents and students of the expectations for audiences at high school athletic events. Anyone attending our events is subject to these expectations, and can be asked to leave if they are not followed. We want to create a positive and supportive environment for ALL of our student athletes, our guests/opponents, and both respective coaching staffs as well as the hired officials for the events. The tone that we set especially as a host school is important and sets up a reputation for the school in either a positive or negative light. We want to keep pushing towards athletic excellence with honor, and continue to be sure our parents, students and coaches are doing the same.

Senior Family FAQ's

When is graduation? These dates are given to us by the Concord Pavilion, who has to work around their concert bookings to accomodate 7-8 high school graduations. We likely will not have this date for a couple more months, (we are told January) and will share it as soon as we do. Families planning trips should plan one after June 4th to be on the safe side.

What senior events do we have dates for?

  • Finals- December 19, 20 and 21 (A period Dec 16)
  • Senior Ads in Yearbook DUE January 31st
  • SENIOR BALL - March 31st
  • Senior Circle Awards Night- Monday May 15th
  • Senior Project- May 24 and 25

TBD- Senior Breakfast and Graduation as well as Grad Night

Senior Portraits- How can I get these done?

Studio 1 is our official photographer. Families can contact Studio1 for a portrait sitting, or can wait until January when studio1 will be coming to Northgate to take all final pictures. Families can also elect to use a private photographer, but must provide a high resolution photo to our yearbook teacher, Ms Barry, in order to be included in the yearbook, senior banner, etc. barryk@mdusd.org

Senior Ads in the Yearbook- These are due in January!
