December 2014
This month in the LLC...
We celebrated books in and out of our library! We also shared some of the fabulous projects we worked on through the month of November. Read below for more details!
First Grade Animal Research
First grade researched an animal and created a digital book to share with their classmates. We shared our informational texts at the beginning of December. Read more about this project on the Lowell Blog!
Third Grade Native American Research
During the month of November, third graders worked in small groups to become experts about a Native American tribe. They researched their tribe's food, shelter, and interesting facts using the the app StoryCreator. We shared our finished products at the beginning of this month.
Fifth Grade Aurasma Projects
In November, fifth graders finished reading The Fourteenth Goldfish for Global Read Aloud. To tie in with the book, students interviewed an elder of their choice about the year when he/she was ten years old. We then turned the interviews into short videos linked with a picture. Students used the Aurasma app to view each other's videos by scanning each picutre!
Books and Bites
Fourth and fifth graders were invited to participated in Books and Bites, an after school book club with three other schools in our district: Pleasant Hill, Washington, and Wiesbrook. We met at Wiesbrook to talk about the book Saving Zasha by Randi Barrow, eat pizza, meet a German Shepherd (Zasha's breed), and play a fun trivia game. Lowell was well represented with over 15 students in attendance - they also brought along their parents to double the fun!
We will be hosting another Books and Bites during the springtime!
