Groundhog Gazette

October 2021

From The Desk Of Mrs. Uhlorn

Hello Groundhog Families,

As we wind down the first quarter, I want to take a moment to thank you for your patience and flexibility as we navigate another year of pandemic management. Idaho continues to practice Crisis Standard of Care due to the COVID-19 surges around the state. Because of this, we will continue to take mitigating measures to keep everyone in our community safe.

VOLUNTEERS

I will be working closely with the PTA to establish a group of members who can volunteer in our building. Please see that specific section below.

TREATS

With the upcoming holidays I want to remind parents/families that if you want to provide treats they must be store bought and individually wrapped. Thank you again for continuing to support our guidelines.

HALLOWEEN PARADE

Due to the rising numbers of cases and community spread of COVID-19 we will not be holding our traditional Halloween parade. I know this is something that is a deeply rooted tradition at Amity. The decision to not hold the parade was difficult, yet, we know it is the right one for our students and parents.

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on October 20-21st. Teachers will be sending out a sign up genius this week, NO LATER THAN FRIDAY. You will have the option to sign up for a virtual or an in-person conference. If you sign up for in-person, you will enter the classroom from the outside doors. You will also be required to comply with our mask mandate while in the building. Thank you in advance for following our board policy and mitigating measures so we can keep in-person learning moving forward.

LOCKDOWN DRILL

We will be holding our annual lockdown drill with the Ada County Sheriff's Department on 10/6. If you drive by the school and see several ACSD cars, know we are performing an active lockdown drill. Teachers will be reviewing these procedures with students this week so they are not scared and know what to do. Conversations at home about these procedures are welcomed and encouraged to put our students at ease. We are required to do these lockdown drills; if you would like your student to opt out from participating you may keep them home that day.

I know this was a lot of information to sift through. Thank you again for taking the time out of your day to read the newsletter. I appreciate you as a community and we love serving your students.

Sincerely,

Valerie Uhlorn

Principal

Meet the Health Office

Betty Movius, RN & Kim Peck, Health Tech

Hello Amity Families,

My name is Betty Movius and I am the new Nurse for Amity. Kim Peck is the new Health Tech. We are excited to serve and get to know the students and families of Amity. I know in the past a paper form was sent home to give updated health information and medication authorization. We are moving away from the paper forms and are asking parents to go on Infinite Campus if you haven't already done and update your child's health history and medication authorization. This will help us know of the medical needs of our students and whether it is ok to give them over the counter medications. Please don't hesitate to call if you have any questions or concerns about your student.
