Lenape M. S. Smoke Signals
December 22, 2014
Happy Holidays to our Lenape families. Many wishes for a healthy and prosperous 2015 year.
Lenape Special Persons' Day
On Friday, December 12th, Lenape welcomed senior citizens from the community for our annual Special Persons’ Day. Lenape’s guests enjoyed a concert showcasing our students in chorus, band, and orchestra followed by lunch. The meal was prepared and served by Lenape students in Family and Consumer Science classes. Student ambassadors and members of the National Junior Honor Society helped in many ways and joined in conversation at the lunch tables with senior citizens. Lenape is very proud of this tradition and our partnership with the community.
Boys' Basketball Tryouts
The Lenape Boys' Basketball season begins in December with our open gyms for 7th and 8th grade students and tryouts for both grades in January. MESSAGE FROM LENAPE GUIDANCE
With the holidays here, we offer some suggestions while our children have many days of vacation. Homes where all of the adults are employed full-time present some unique difficulties when school is closed for a prolonged period. Often parents assume that, by the time a child reaches middle school, they no longer need the supervision that was required in elementary years. Thus, there are many young teens left unattended on these vacation days with the opportunity to encounter situations both in and outside the home that may be unsafe. It also increases the likelihood that they may be tempted to make poor choices and engage in undesirable activities, either as a result of boredom or the pressure of peers who are also left to their own devices. In the coming days, please take some time to develop a plan that will provide your middle-schoolers with the amount of independence that is appropriate for their age while, at the same time, ensuring their safety and your peace of mind. Rotating supervision among neighborhood parents, planning structured activities, and regular check-ins, can all help fill in the gap in coverage that is created when school is closed.
We wish all of you a happy holiday season and a healthy new year.
SNOW SPORTS CLUB
The students will be going to Blue Mountain. The first trip is on Friday, January 9th and the students need to drop off their gear in the fitness gym between 7 and 7:25 in the morning.
