Lenape Special Persons' Day

Big image

On Friday, December 12th, Lenape welcomed senior citizens from the community for our annual Special Persons’ Day. Lenape’s guests enjoyed a concert showcasing our students in chorus, band, and orchestra followed by lunch. The meal was prepared and served by Lenape students in Family and Consumer Science classes. Student ambassadors and members of the National Junior Honor Society helped in many ways and joined in conversation at the lunch tables with senior citizens. Lenape is very proud of this tradition and our partnership with the community.

Teen Cuisine is an exciting 6 week program for teens ages 13-18 where students learn how to eat healthfully, be active in different ways and build personal skills to live well for a lifetime. Two sessions a week will be held at Tohickon Middle School in the Spring. For more information you can find it on our website at cbsd.org/Lenape/Parent Resources or click here

The Lenagazette

This is the first time in years we will have a newspaper for the students, about the students and by the students. When we first thought of this idea, our movitation was to give more students the opportunity to be involved and lead within our Lenape community. We are looking for students to join our newspaper staff. Our Lenagazette is located on our website under Our School - Lenagazette.

Program Planning

The Program Planning process for course selection for 2015-16 has begun. Students will be attending grade level assemblies to learn detailed information about the process. They will meet with teachers and guidance counselors to review recommendations and course options. Current 9th and 7th grade students will be involved in this process during the month of January. For 8th grade, the process does not begin until early February. All students will bring home verification sheets listing course requests so parents can review and discuss these choices with their child before anything is finalized.

A few important dates to be aware of for 9th grade:

January 6 - 9th grade students are introduced to the high school schedule and program planning process during an assembly in school.

January 7th - 9th grade students will come home with their academic recommendations on this day. Please take this information with you to the curriculum fair on January 8th so you can discuss the different academic levels with the high school faculty

January 7th - MBIT Open House for parents and students 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

January 8th, 6:30 PM - Curriculum Fair at CB West for current 9th grade students and their parents.

Please contact your Guidance Office if you have any questions. Again, additional information will be provided for all grade levels in the coming weeks.

With the holidays here, we offer some suggestions while our children have many days of vacation. Homes where all of the adults are employed full-time present some unique difficulties when school is closed for a prolonged period. Often parents assume that, by the time a child reaches middle school, they no longer need the supervision that was required in elementary years. Thus, there are many young teens left unattended on these vacation days with the opportunity to encounter situations both in and outside the home that may be unsafe. It also increases the likelihood that they may be tempted to make poor choices and engage in undesirable activities, either as a result of boredom or the pressure of peers who are also left to their own devices. In the coming days, please take some time to develop a plan that will provide your middle-schoolers with the amount of independence that is appropriate for their age while, at the same time, ensuring their safety and your peace of mind. Rotating supervision among neighborhood parents, planning structured activities, and regular check-ins, can all help fill in the gap in coverage that is created when school is closed.

We wish all of you a happy holiday season and a healthy new year.

The students will be going to Blue Mountain. The first trip is on Friday, January 9th and the students need to drop off their gear in the fitness gym between 7 and 7:25 in the morning.
