Happy Fall Thunderbird Families!
It is a busy and exciting time. Thornhill is a National Blue Ribbon School! Congratulations to Mr. Daubenspeck and our amazing faculty and staff who work so hard on behalf of our children – this award is for you! An extra special thank you also goes out to PFC Board members Shanyn Lloyd-Gibson and Mavis Scanlon-Marble, who spent many hours earlier this spring (with Mr. Daubenspeck) writing the application. The award ceremony takes place in early November in Washington, D.C. Mr. Daubenspeck and 5th grade teacher Mr. Wilkins will represent and accept the award on behalf of the entire Thornhill community. We are so proud to be a part of this wonderful learning community.
The Thornhill community is excited to welcome students from our sister school in Hangzhou, China, this evening! Twenty-four students (along with their Asst. Principal and two faculty members) will be hosted by 12 Thornhill families until Wednesday, Oct. 5. Please consider joining us for a brief welcome at 5:45 p.m. this evening and again Saturday morning from 10 a.m.-noon on the playground. There will be food, drinks and fun for all ages. Let’s give our Chinese friends a warm Thunderbird welcome!
Thanks so much to the nearly 100 parents who showed up to have their Live Scan fingerprinting done by Red Tomatoes, Inc. If you’re still in need of fingerprinting, please visit Red Tomatoes at 610 16th Street, Suite #321, in downtown Oakland. (You can call for an appointment -- 510-879-6991 - but they take walk-ins as well.) Please also consider them for any future notary or fingerprint needs. Owner Sunil Jaswal was wonderful to work with and he even gave a portion of his earnings back to Thornhill in appreciation of our business!
Best,
Shanyn and Shauna

Volunteer Reminders
Thank you everyone for your work in going through OUSD's new volunteer process! A few reminders for those who are still working on this.
1. Sign up on line at: https://www.tfaforms.com/427147
2. Scan and e-mail your TB test to Lilly Smith at: lily@oaklandedfund.org
3. If you will be driving on field trips, you will need to be fingerprinted and TB-tested. If you will only be in the classroom helping the teacher all that is needed is a TB test.
Whichever way you choose to volunteer, please remember that ALL must register online and all documentation (fingerprinting and TB test) must be sent to Lily Smith.
Once again thank you for your understanding, patience and willingness to work with this new process.
TB Screenings for Volunteers
Sean Parkin, a Thornhill parent and member of our Dads Club, is offering $20 TB screening through his urgent care clinic in San Leandro, CityHealth Urgent Care.
TB screening, also known as a "PPD plant”, is required by OUSD to be a Thornhill volunteer. It tests to see if you have ever been exposed to tuberculosis. People with positive test results, who have not received a TB vaccination in the past, will require a chest x-ray to ensure that there is no active disease.
