August 2018

🐾 Welcome Tigers!

Everyone at Lake Asbury Junior High is getting excited for another school year to begin! Since 2005, LAJH has built a tradition of being a school of excellence, and students are given wonderful opportunities through academics, clubs, and athletic programs! We look forward to seeing students on August 14th and don’t miss out on opportunities to meet LAJH staff during Student Orientations and Open House!

Student Orientations

*During orientations, parents and students can expect to...
  • pick up their schedules
  • meet their teachers
  • buy PE uniforms at $20.
  • purchase LAJH merchandise
  • add money to student lunch accounts

*School Supply List

Teachers will provide class supply lists at the beginning of the school year. Please be aware that there may be items that an individual teacher requests that are not on the supply list.

Middle School Mania

Some students and parents may worry about all of the changes that occur at junior high schools, but don’t panic! Our caring staff at LAJ will help students find their way around to their classes and adapt to the junior high environment. School Counselors will also visit classrooms, introduce themselves to students, and discuss the services offered through the Guidance Department. By the end of the first nine weeks, new or incoming students will be well adjusted to the LAJ school routine. 🦉 FOCUS Parent Portal

Most schools today have an online student management system that allows parents to see their child’s progress. If you are new to the Clay County School district, you will become familiar with FOCUS School Software. It is a student information system that includes attendance, assessment, communication, discipline, digital lesson delivery, gradebook, and progress monitoring information. FOCUS is an important tool for all users, and we suggest that parents sit down with their child and review what’s online on a weekly basis. Click on FOCUS to register for a parent account and stay on top of your child's progress.

Get Involved!

Although academics is our main priority at Lake Asbury JH, we encourage students to get involved with extracurricular activities. LAJ offers so many opportunities for students to join clubs or programs that help build students’ talent, social skills, and self-esteem. Check out the video below to see some of the clubs, sports, and events that take place during the school year at LAJH!

Principal's Corner

Dear Students and Families,

On behalf of the LAJH faculty and staff, we would like to welcome our new students and our returning students to the 2018-2019 school year. We are excited about the opportunities this year brings for each of us, and we look forward to seeing all of you on the first day of school, August 14th.

I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere thanks and appreciation to our custodial staff. They worked diligently throughout the summer to clean and ready the school, and our buildings and grounds look spectacular.

Our teachers and support staff have also spent hours preparing materials, creating student-centered classrooms, and reviewing data in preparation for the new school year. While we often think of the summer as a fun, relaxing time, our faculty and staff still work diligently to ensure a successful school year for our students and their families. I am grateful for all of the hard work that goes into making LAJH a fantastic school.

I would also like to extend a special welcome to our incoming seventh-grade students or those who are new to our school. You are a welcome addition to our Tiger Family. Please know that we are here to support you as you make your transition to LAJH.

We are looking forward to watching the students stream off of the buses, out of cars and into the hallways filled with the hustle and bustle that has been absent all summer. After all, the students are what make school, well, a school.
