Colt Corner
Colleyville Middle School
December 10, 2021
Colts,
Can you believe that the last week of the first semester is here?! It has gone by quick, and I am so proud of the successful first semester we have had despite the normal challenges of a school year. This semester, core classes will be giving comprehensive semester exams, created by the district to get another data point on our students' progress. As always, please encourage your Colt to do their best so that we can gauge their learning from the first semester, which will help us make plans for their instruction when we return from the break. As we get ready to wrap up the calendar year, I am confident in our students and their ability to finish 2021 on a high note. Thank you all for the significant role you play to help make CMS the BEST it can be. Have a great weekend!

CMS Bobby Bragan Award Winners
Congratulations to Daniel Thomas and Elizabeth Akinmerese on being selected to represent CMS in the next round of the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation Scholarship!
Semester Exam Reminders - Headphones/Earbuds
Next week, for semester exams, please help remind your student to come prepared by bringing their charged laptop and charger, pencils and paper, headphones, and any other specific materials their teachers have said that need for the exam (i.e. notes if permitted, calculator, etc.).
Students with oral accommodations will receive their accommodations via computer, so it’s very important they bring headphones to listen on their computer.
Students with small group administration will take their exams in a designated room. They will be told their testing location next week.
We did it again!
Congratulations to the PTA and school leadership on their continued effort moving CMS forward Building an Excellent School Together!
December Parent Tech Academy: Apple Screen Time
GCISD’s Parent Technology Academy is returning this month with a session focused on monitoring your student’s screen time on Apple devices. The free session will be held on Tuesday, December 14, at 6 p.m. on Webex. A representative from Apple will lead this virtual session in which parents will learn about Apple’s Screen Time functions.
No registration is required, and parents can join by simply visiting www.GCISD.net/ParentTech. Shortly before the session begins, this link will direct parents directly to the Webex session. The live session will be conducted in English, with a summary of the session available in both English and Spanish after December 14.
Screen Time lets you know how much time you and your kids spend on apps, websites, and more. This allows parents to make more informed decisions about how you use your devices, and set limits if you'd like to. Learn how to use parental controls to manage a child's device during this free to all session.
The Parent Technology Academy is a place where parents can come to learn about current trends in social media, online websites, and tools their students use each day at school. This Academy is a place to pull back the curtain on the many apps and websites that students use on a day-to-day basis in and out of school. Past sessions have included Top Apps Parents Need to Know, Social Media and College, Understanding Google Docs, Internet Safety, Minecraft for Parents, Fortnite For Parents, Device-Free Dinners and more.
